Teacher Capsule Wardrobe: Wrap Up

Finally ready to share what I wore in my Teacher Capsule Wardrobe. From the 19 pieces, I shared 15 days of work outfits (+ more that didn't get photographed). I wore all of these outfits in the month of December, & admittedly it was a very mild time here in Nashville. However, I think that all of these looks could be easily transitioned to warmer weather (remove sweaters), or colder climates (add tights + heavier footwear). I am happy that I was able to photograph each piece being worn 2 different ways… can you spot both ways in the collage below?

This "capsule wardrobe" practice definitely helped me to figure out what colors, cuts & styles work for my career. For those that are just tuning in, I am a 7th grade science teacher that has "snappy" work wear guidelines (stylish, but no shoulders showing, & hemlines are supposed to be no more than 3 inches above the knee). I work inside all day, standing on my feet for a minimum of 10 hours, & need to be able to crouch down to talk to students at their desks, & lift my arms up high to write on the white board.

The easiest combo for me? Pencil skirt + button down.

An area of growth for me? Dress pants… oh the struggle of finding an appropriately fitting pair!

What was your favorite look? Any suggestions for what makes your workwear work? Anyone else find themselves in a similar workplace sartorial situation?

  2. I'm a teacher too, so I've loved seeing your take on the business casual attire that comes with the classroom. And your recent post has me really wanting to find a good pair of oxfords!

  3. I am a teacher too (though for much younger ones--kindergarten!) so I feel your struggle with clothes! I think also these looks are awesome but I am particularly fond of 2, 3, and 4

  6. Love your blazer/cardi + dress combos! Ran into a girl that had just moved to Nashville this weekend at brunch, I sent her your way for some ideas on where to eat + what to do in Nashville!

  7. Do I have to pick one? How about three? The black LBD with the blue cardi, the black ankle pants with the vest and black flats, and the green skirt paired with the nude wedges, that shiny top and the black cardi. In spite of my current Disqus pic, I'm like you in that I struggle with pants - I'm definitely a skirts and dresses gal. I'm trying to force myself to wear more pants - the upside is I'm finding I'm having more fun making statements through my shoes :-)

  9. You've got an absolutely perfect teacher wardrobe. I love everything! I think my favourite pieces is that purple (blue?) dress that you wore in the top row. That colour is stunning, and I love how simple the cut of the dress is. You did an amazing job of making 15 VERY different outfits. Well done!
