Day 7: that dreaded day

{ What I Wore: J.Crew bouse, belt & skirt // Nine West pumps // Spike the Punch necklace }

silk blouse {$74.50} + wool pencil skirt {$69.50} + belt {deal $34.50 // steal $12.99}  + statement necklace {$28.00} + black pumps {$30.00}
Oh no... I have an important function, and NOTHING to wear.
Ok, I'm being a little overdramatic I have stuff to wear, but when I put it on, it doesn't look anything like I imagined it would in my head.

verbatim

3 years ago I spotted this sweater + shorts + sandals styled together on the pages of a J.Crew catalog... and immediately purchase all three items... and continue to wear them all together.
J.Crew styling gets it so right, and sometimes, it is just better to not mess up a good thang.
{ What I Wore: J.Crew sweater (this year's version), shorts (LOVE these), sandals (similar) // Matt & Nat purse // Spike the Punch necklace // Michael Kors watch }
Looking at this outfit actually makes me realize that I am (slowly but surely) building a functional wardrobe - I bought quality items that I loved, and three years later the individual items are still relevant. With the addition of a statement necklace, and on trend watch, this outfit is lifted out of 2009 to 2012

Have you ever ordered an entire outfit from a styled page out of a catalog?
What are some items that have been long time residents in your closet but you still find "on trend" today?xx

P.S. I am trying to branch out, and joined the ASOS style competition... vote for my street style outfit here (I seriously appreciate every single vote!)

weekend wear

Sunday day was spent brunching, running around town, and getting ready to take on the week.
Saturdays are my favorite nights, but Sundays are my favorite afternoons... (I'm not really a morning person, so mornings are equally rough to me)
What is your favorite?
{ J.Crew dress {similar} & button-down, Jessica Simpson Heels, Spike the Punch Necklace }
My new favorite way to wear bangle bracelets is on my forearm... now I am looking at my bracelets in a whole new way!
xx

P.S. Don't forget to enter my first every give away for a beautiful BaubleBar necklace {here},

chambray makes my day

Good Morning! Monday was surprisingly productive, so let's keep the momentum moving into Tuesday! This week in Nashville is "Restaurant Originals Week" - meaning, local (non-chain) restaurants have awesome deals on preselected menus, with a 2-course meal costing $20.12 and a 3-course meal $30.12. And, people, these are restaurants that I normally cannot afford on my Graduate Student stipend, so I am pumped! Tonight me and my girlfriends are going to check out Mambu for a delicious 3-course meal - a little Southern/Cajun home cooked goodness!

Then this weekend, Ty and I are going to check out CaffĂ© Nonna to stuff ourselves with 3 courses (calamari and scallopini get in my stomach) of amazing Italian scrump-dilly-uptious-ness (yup, just make up that word to describe how amaze it is going to be!)

Whenever I vacation, I usually plan my activities around eating, so it is fun to "vacation" in my own backyard and try out some new eats in the process! I'll let you know how the new places measure up!

In the mean time - I'm still rocking my chambray button down! This is my way of convincing myself that one day I will be able to pull off a 30 for 30 Remix... one day... maybe one day when it is warm again
Maxi Dress - Old Navy (similar)
Chambray button down & belt - J.Crew
Necklace - Spike the Punch
Booties - Charlotte Russe

This maybe my favorite way to layer chambray yet - belted over my simple black maxi dress. I am lame and do not currently own 1 single maxi skirt - unlike the awesome Kenzie Faith {who owns 7!} I haven't found one that "fits"... got my eye out still... so this allows me to pretend!

Oh and this Spike the Punch necklace pretty much makes every outfit I pair it with. I don't wear much jewelry, but give this girl a statement necklace and I will wear it with sweats!

xx

glitter is a girl's best friend

I love selling my clothes to consignment stores, and while I am there I usually pick up one or two things as well – it is like clothes recycling (...maybe that is my self justification...)! I got this pair of multi-colored glitter heels on my last trip to the consignment store, and I’m in love with them! I made this outfit around my new heels, and my etsy.com (spikethepunch store) necklace for a Saturday night out with friends to the Flying Saucer
Blazer- Urban Outfitters; Top- Rachel Pally; Jeans- Genetic Denim; Heels- Candies (Plato's Closet); Necklace- Etsy (orange) & Local Boutique (long silver)
