stripe blazer (exact) + silk blouse + mint jeans (super cute & under $20!) + leopard belt + wedge booties
Ok, first off, yesterday's conversation about fast fashion vs. investment pieces was so great to read. It really made me consider both sides differently, & I loved getting everyone talking!
Oh & I still can't make up my mind about that dang bag... I think I might think too much!
I also have recently realized that I have been much harsher lately about which outfits I wear are "blog-worthy"... & I'm not sure how it got that way.
While I cringe at the quality of my earlier photos, in the beginning the blog served more as a personal style diary of what I wore, be it casual work wear, or fancier event-ready ensembles... but somewhere along the line, it came to my attention that more than just my mom, BFF & boyfriend were reading along, & I got the notion that I had to impress you, so I started sharing only the good stuff.
While on the one hand this has made me more accountable to not simply put on the grad school allowed uniform of old t-shirt + ratty jeans, I also stopped sharing many of my day-to-day outfits.
So here it is, one of my regular person outfits, when I wasn't going anywhere but to work to put on my white lab coat and play with frogs all day.
When you look good, you feel good amiright!? (regardless of my irrational fear of wasting a good outfit)
So there you have it - not Jessica the "style blogger", but Jessica the grad student, pug mama, might have frog eggs on her sleeve at any given time woman
I am still figuring out my "personal style" & I thank each and every one of you for tuning in to see my journey! (Shhh, don't tell anyone, but I seriously have the best readers - YOU GUYS!!!)
P.S. These wedges are so super comfortable, and even though they only cost $15 from Charlotte Russe, they are the shoes I get the most compliments on (move over $235 Tory flats!)
LOVE the stripes with those amazing mint pants! xoxo

I can't believe you doubted that this outfit was "blog worthy"! Pattern mixing, mint pants, cute shoes? What's not to love? I hate feeling like I'm wasting an outfit. I've worn so many cute things lately that have gone unblogged!
ReplyDeletelove the mint, stripes, leopard combo! AND those wedges are adorable! xo

you look great pug mama :) love those booties too - I have a pair I got from Target and they are super comfy. Ain't wrong with a little bargain shopping...

Get the bag! I am a huuuge proponent of spending $$$ on my bags (to my wallet's detriment), but they last for ages, if you care for them properly, so really the investment is worth it!
ReplyDeletei do the same things with shoes. it's a huge problem.
I definitely think it is important to represent the "whole person" behind the blog...which includes everything from casual looks to fancy party outfits! Personally, I gather inspiration from all types of styles and then tend to mesh them all together! I go between scrubs and sequins, which I feature equally on my blog!! And this outfit is great, especially since spring is just around the corner!!
ReplyDeleteAnd investing in a great handbag is important, but I'd recommend checking out a local secondhand/thrift shop, I've found so many great bags (Coach, Kate Spade, Prada) for a fraction of the sticker price!!!

This outfit is going to be my inspiration for all of spring–I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe stripes and leopard print are so cute together! I'd much rather see a "real" outfit than one that was put together just for the sake of blogging. :)

I love my mint jeans- I usually wear them with black and white just like this, too!
ReplyDeletethis is TOTALLY a blog-worthy outfit! stripes? leopard? puh-lease! super cute. I am with you though, some of my "boring" outfits seem silly to put on the blog. Though truth be told some of those are the most popular. Funny how that works. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Jessica! I am loving your "Jessica the grad student" look! I love being able to see some pieces I have in common with you and trying to decide how to wear them. Mint pants = surprisingly versatile and suede booties = probably my most worn shoe! Yesterday's post cracked me up, you are so right. Being a college student, I think I'm still very much affected by the Forever 21 affect, as opposed to buying a nice bag (which is beautifullll by the way). Also, can I add that I'm loving how your new shade of hair is looking with your outfits?!

I really like your "regular Jessica" outfit. That blouse is so great!
ReplyDeleteI think you look great! I love the mint with the leopard belt. I must do that sometime. See, you are still influencing people with your everyday style! :)

Charlotte Russe comes through with comfy/stylish shoes on the cheap for me ALL.the.Time! Love that store! Annnnd I'm pretty sure I need those booties in my life! :-) Absolutely loving your mint jeans (I'm still looking for my perfect pair) and I've been on the hunt for a B&W striped blazer too - love yours.

I LOVE this outfit! I don't think it's a 'regular person' outfit at all haha! Also, your photos are looking amazing. You'll have to do an updated photography post to let us know how that new lens is going and what setting you're using to get such awesome photos :)

well...what can I say besides yes yes yes, all of this yes. Personally I like the every day looks more - it keeps it real and I can appreciate that. I love this look on you.
ReplyDeleteThe everyday looks are what I got into reading personal style blogs to see, actually... My lifestyle is pretty casual since I work from home, but I still like to feel good - which comes partly from being polished and put together and snazzy. So I love to see how other people accomplish that for everday wear too, and it gives me great inspiration for my own wardrobe. Plus this is way more polished and cute than "regular person" - it's stylish person on a regular day. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteHow have I not been following you yet?! I hopped over from BTB over at Franish and I'm obsessed!! You'll be seeing a lot of me here (and potentially a lot of inspired outfits from you on my blog!) :)
ReplyDeletelove the minty pants!
ReplyDeleteI've caught myself doing the same thing lately. I don't have tons of money to spend ion fashion so I've noticed my looks can be a little plain sometimes but I think that's okay. It's real and it's who I am. Walkinginmemphisinhighheels.com
ReplyDeleteI hear you Jessica - sometimes I feel my outfit are so plain jane - should I even bother. But I remember that my blog is about me and I am not trying to be one of the fancy highly read bloggers that seems to have unlimited budget & their full time job is blogging. I really like this outfit...something about mint + leopard = perfection!
