My fiancé is from the great Northwestern part of the United States (Oregon) & always makes fun of me for pulling out my umbrella, even in the slightest drizzle. Apparently people of the NW don't use umbrellas (WHAT!?), but I also don't think that they experience anything close to the drenching thunderstorms of Tennessee (or Arkansas, where I'm from originally).

So, in an attempt to acclimate myself to the norms of a place I may call home in the future, I've been forgoing my trusty umbrella in instances of light rain… & let me just say, I don't know how you NorthWestern women do it! Is there some secret hair spray that you use? Because my hair goes from manageable to Medusa in 0.1 seconds of rain exposure.
While I've been ditching my umbrella, I have been enjoying my floppy hat instead during the past few weeks of Winter-Spring-confused-weather-drizzles… if I am going to be getting rained on, I best be doing it fashionably!
So, are you a dedicated umbrella user? Or more of a duck & runner in the rain?

P.S. Today is the last day to enter the Total Betty Society giveaway for a fabulous statement necklace.

all the statements

{ What I Wore: hatSurf Dome // ASOS leopard jacket // oversized sweaterFront Row Shop // Windsor Store leggings // Steve Madden boots (similar) // purse ℅ Yes Walker // necklaceiSanctuary }

{Get the Look for Less}

hat {$47.50} + leopard jacket {$95} + camel sweater {$42} + liquid leather-look leggings {$36.90} + over the knee boots {$62} + black cross body purse {$25} + statement necklace {$42}
Ok, so apparently this outfit is a culmination of all the "statement" pieces I am drawn to these days:
statement jacket - check
statement hat - check
statement boots - check
and statement necklace - check
(pretty sure a sweater this oversized could be considered a "statement" too - like a "hi I stole this from my boyfriend" kind of statement)
But the necklace is more than just a stunning piece, it is a statement of support.

Since 2007 iSanctuary has been employing & supporting the survivors of human trafficking through the sale of products handmade by the survivors themselves, in both the US & India.
(the "i" stands for International)

Their shop promotes "purchases with a purpose" - an idea of conscious consumerism that has been heavy on my mind this season especially.

Why not give two-fold during this season of spreading love?
Ok, just one more statement - today I have the great pleasure of co-hosting the Spotlight of the Week link-up with Elle & Jacqueline. This week we are spotlighting Statement Jewelry… so pile on your bling, & link up after the page break -->

awkwardly awesome

{ What I Wore: J.Crew polka dot button down // Purse c/o YesWalker // Arden B. leatherette shorts // ShoeDazzle "Danee" sandals // UO attitude glasses // Boutique Onze "Leo" necklace }

polka dot blouse {$69.50 // $19.80} + crossbody bag {$28.00} + leather shorts {$17.80} + sandals {"Danee" $27.97} + glasses {$14.00} + zodiac necklace {$30.00}
I know Awkward & Awesome is historically a Thursday event, but with the popularity of Throwback Thursday, #tbt for those in the know, I think A&A needs a new date!
So let's talk some A&A today!
Awkward:
- Having a sunburn & an obvious white "W" on my back... guess that is one spot that I could reach...?

- Getting caught taking outfit photos by a police officer & told to leave... I so did not want to have to explain what I was doing! Guess my secret spot isn't so secret anymore!

- I tried out the Sally Hansen at home gel mani kit, but after 2 days, one of those being completely spent in the lake, all 10 peeled off... whomp whomp (I do think I am going to try it again now that I'm not going to be fully aquatic for a while!)

- The AC in our townhouse is currently broken... sweaty hot mess is the new comfortably air conditioned. Go ahead, ask the pugs how much fun we are having...

Awesome:
- My bestie was in town this weekend & we ate, drank, boated, & tried on Wedding Dresses!!!! This whole "I'm getting married" thing just got real, in a super awesome way!

- Um, Memorial Day... it. was. legit. (Tuesday back at work, not so much!)

- The boyfriend fiancé (<-- I need to get better about that!) just brought me a glass of the beer he personally made for me... YUM!

- These new ShoeDazzle sandals (the "Danee")! When I first got them they were a half-size too big, but these perfectly fitting babies just arrived at my doorstep & they ain't ever leaving my feets!
Other things that are awesome!? Giveaways!
I'm hosing a fab necklace giveaway from Cat & Bot {here}
I'm also a part of the glorious Living in Yellow Group Giveaway {here}

What has been awkward & awesome in your life friends??

Floor Outfits

{ What I Wore: Urban Outfitters blazer // J.Crew Factory tank // Citizens of Humanity jeans // bag c/o Yes Walker // Nine West Pumps }
{Get the Look}
blazer {$59} + tank {$49.50} + flare jeans {$27.99} + bag {$28} + pumps {$29.99}
Sometimes the outfits that I get so much credit for here on the internets, are totally stolen... from the floor
When I get home from work I take the time to place my clothes neatly in the closet in a wad on the floor.
So when I am running low on inspiration/time, I let the floor piles speak to me.
Sometimes Monday's shirt is crinkled up next to Wednesday's skirt & that becomes Saturday's outfit... really the best method.
In this case, Friday's science conference ensemble got deconstructed into Sunday's errand running look...
When you've got good wardrobe bones in your closet (& wads on your floor) getting dressed & remixing can be a breeze!
{ What I Wore: Target hat + wedges // necklace c/o Hello Fab // crossbody bag c/o Yes Walker }
{Get the Look}
hat {$14.99} + racerback tank {$49.50} + trouser jeans {$74.99} + bag {$28} + wedges {$24.99} + necklace {$23.99}
This hat covered my hair from the rain that is ruining my life, while the purse made it look like I had it all together!

Have you ever gotten dressed off the floor?
What has been your latest floor inspiration?
