the shape of spring: boxy jacket

The 3rd installment in Elle's "Shape of Spring" feature, is the "Boxy Jacket".
{See the previous two: peplums, knife pleats}

This trend was a little more obscure for me than the other two, but upon scoping out this look in trendy internet boutiques, I realized what a wonderful season it is for jackets - of the "boxy" variety or not. Jackets are totally having a moment!
Regardless of whether you want to pull a Man Repeller, or channel your inner 1950s lady, there is a jacket out there for you! I am looking forward to picking up a few fun jackets and pairing them with my classic silk shells and new color pants for Spring!
{Colored Denim / Classic Navy / Girlie Varsity / Lady-like Tweed /
Fashion Forward Floral / Date Night Sparkler / Rocker Studs}

What do you think?
Will you be seen rocking a varsity jacket?
Or bring lady back with some tweed?

pop of pink

I am a self proclaimed "girlie girl", but sadly I think the only pink item I currently own is this J.Crew beanie (or toque if you prefer!)
{I also believe it was my first J.Crew purchase maybe 10 years ago!}
J.Crew turtleneck, Genetic Denim Jeans, Pink J.Crew beanie
Being that February is the self-proclaimed month of love, it isn't too hard to spot some fabulous girlie pink items around these days. In honor of the month of Valentines' and to earn my girlie girl status, I think these pale pink jeans might have just jumped to the very top of my {wish list}.
What are you favorite items?
Wearing any more pink now that it is February?
Or have you always been a pink lady?

{pale pink jeans / pink espradilles / pink blouse / pink watch / hot pink scarf /
funky pink chain / pink girlie pleated skirt / chic pink clutch}

keep it classy pink ladies

the shape of spring: knife pleats

Continuing my report of Elle Magazine's article, "The Shape of Things to Come" with the HOTT spring trend - Knife Pleats  (aka a fancy word for tiny pleats)

I love the lady-like trends of late, and pleats are no exception. The style blog word is full of inspiring looks that incorporate girlie pleated looks {here, here & here}, and one of my favorite Pinterest styles is pleated skirt + classic blazer.
{both images via Ashley's blog, Ring My Bell, leather skirt found here}

It was an easy chore to find a plethora of pleated skirts on the interwebs, just ready and waiting for warmer Spring temperatures. Knife pleats can be found on mini skirt, maxi skirt, and even dresses and peplum tops. All colors (hot pink!) and materials (faux leather!) are fair game too! Have fun with this style, whether it is dressed down with chambray or taken to the next lady-like level with silken blouses.

resolution round-up

1 month ago I pledged to keep 12 resolutions in 2012...
So how have I been doing?

health: working out is getting easier, and I even ran my first 5K! And my aluminum water bottle is my new best friend that goes every where with me.

The Zoo Run Run was my first 5K, looking to do another in March!
financial: The holidays were rough on the old wallet, but I have gotten back on track, and am being very diligent to lead a more frugal life, so that I can save up to enjoy more traveling (weddings, Bachelorette parties, visiting friends spread over the country), and looking forward to long-term investments.

relationships: I have been enjoying more evenings out with my girlfriend, have gotten in touch with some old friends, and trying fun things with Ty around town.
Hanging out with some old and new friends!
spiritual: Still working on finding a home church for Ty and me, but making my daily devotional part of my routine is getting easier.

lifestyle: The sewing machine is still sitting on the shelf (maybe this weekend I will break it out), but I am enjoying learning more about my new camera (though, not sure I will ever look like photos from The Sartorialist), and cooking new recipes is something that I look forward to every week.

These cuties are my favorite subjects for my new camera skills!
I think so far so good... I mean, I have 11 more months to work towards a better me in 2012!
Did you make resolutions?
Are you keeping them? Be honest!

work it wednesday: red jeggings

Gap Jeggings
Moto-Jacket (old) {similar}
Heels Forever21
Tank Ted Baker
Necklaces: Forever21 {similar}, DIY

I cannot get over how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new colored denim. It is such a breeze to transform these colored jeggings from weekend wear to date night and everywhere in between.

I definitely have been working these pants - but maybe I need to step out of my red + white + gray comfort zone. I just don't know what other colors to wear it with. Red + Yellow = McDonald's, Red + Green = Christmas, Red + Purple = royalty, Red + Brown = gross.
I am thinking that Red + Pink, Red + Camel, Red + Blue or Red + Red
might be interesting combos to explore too.

{preppy sweater, girlie rocker, weekend casual}

What do you think?
Have you been working some colored denim lately?
