Hey hey... it's Jessica here, late on the trend and kicking myself... again.
Maxi skirts... best thing ever... why am I just figuring this out!?
When I received my summer reward card from J.Crew, I knew that I wanted to try something new, and this swath of fabric caught my eye immediately. Despite being floor length, I find this style of skirt to be flattering, camouflaging and helps to keep the heat out and cool in. Being "petite" isn't even going to stop me from rocking this look all summer long... I'll just keep pretending I am 5'8"... same old same old
{ What I wore: J.Crew maxi skirt // Steve Maden bow flats (love these) // H&M clutch & tank (similar) } |
Gotta get a shot of the cute flats, but I can't wait to wear my new love with heels too!
Have you jumped into the maxi skirt trend yet?
How do you wear yours? I am still experimenting and would love some more ideas!

I'm still on the fence because i think it might overwhelm my petite figure.
ReplyDeleteI love this! That skirt looks so comfy and the whole outfit is so casually chic! Great finds at H&M too - I can never seem to find anything really great there, but I think that's because I get so overwhelmed (there and at F21) that I can't see straight!
ReplyDeleteSuch an expected combo and I LOVE it. You are so cute in all of your photos!
ReplyDeleteOooh...I'm SO in love with maxis!! I just want to keep adding them to my closet. They're sooooo comfortable yet chic. Great choice! Love the purple & leopard!

Morgan, that is so funny ... I always imagine that taller women must have the easiest time finding and wearing clothes... I guess the grass really isn't ever greener on the other side :) midi skirts are popular too... So you could probably pull off any skirt length with legs that long! Happy skirt hunting xx
ReplyDeleteThank you dear!

I love maxi skirts, and you styled this one wonderfully. I wish I could find more that are long enough for me, though! I have the opposite problem that you do. I'm 5'10" and most of the time they're awkwardly short on me. Oh well :/ I just have to snatch them up immediately when they ARE long enough!
ReplyDeleteThe blue goes really well with the pattern and colors on the top!

Ok completely adorable! Love how you styled it so it's not too boho...I has not thought of that (although I love the boho too)! I'm short too so I didn't think it would work for me, but you have convinced me to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteLove the mix of animal print and a dark solid color. This look is perfect! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Erika! I love your site, and hope you take the maxi skirt plunge xx
ReplyDeleteFun - saving for a holiday is definitely worth the sacrifice of passing up some new clothes. Hope you have many exciting trips planned! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm 5'3" and I just throw my petite arms in the air like I just don't care! This is the most comfortable skirt I have ever worn! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am right there with you about being overwhelmed at the large budget stores ... Especially when you can only try on 8 items at a time, and the fitting room lines are forever loooooonnnnnnggggg.... Gotta really make those 8 items count... Or try things on over your clothes in the middle of the store like me! Haha xx
ReplyDeleteI still need to jump this wagon! I saw some lovely maxi dresses at F21 the other day but I am having a shop-stop since I have to save for my holiday this summer, haha. I love how you styled your new skirt here :) you look fabulous! and That printed top is really cute as well :) x
ReplyDeleteThis look is too cute! I love maxi skirts and dresses! They are too fun!

ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes I started out with maxi dresses and fell so in love I said screw it, this petite gal is going to rock a maxi skirt if she darn well pleases! Haha xx
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit! I am Petite too a whole 5'8'' and by 5'8'' I mean 5 feet, but I cant say no to the maxi either. I think some how it looks good on us shorties.. not really sure how.

Love the maxi skirt!!! Went to go buy it and they only have x-large, of course!
ReplyDeletexoxo you have inspired me to wear something else I wouldn't typically wear!
Love the skirt on you! I tried some on the other week and they looked awful on me. I'm petite as well, but I think for some reason, maxi dresses are better suited for my body. Weird huh? You look great!
ReplyDeleteGreat styling! I actually just picked up the same maxi at Jcrew the other day. I can't wait to wear it this weekend...check my blog, post will be up soon :)
ReplyDeleteLove the top you paired it with - thanks for the inspiration!

Of course, J.Crew always teases me with a sale, then breaks my heart when my size is sold out! Liars! xx
ReplyDeleteJessica, I just picked up my first maxi skirt yesterday, too! I love the purple and leopard print together, and those shoes are adorable. I have no idea how to style mine ... the only thing I know at the moment is that I'm going to need to get a couple inches taken off the bottom. :-S

I can't get enough of them and I like how you have styled it, I tend to like them more dressed down because it looks effortlessly chic :)
ReplyDeleteBrooke @ what2wear, Monikabrooke.blogspot.com
OK, that exact same skirt is what made me discover my love for maxis as well! I think it was the color that caught my eye, and I knew I had to try it, and I was pleasantly surprised too! LOVE how you styled it - those bow flats are the cutest :)

ReplyDeletei love the pairing of leopard and purple! i had never thought of that combo before!
ReplyDeleteMaxi skirts are my best friend! LOVE that purple color....I haven't seen one like that! Found your blog through the IT list! I look forward to getting to know your blog!!!! Happy Friday!
