on the floor (& a giveaway)

The "Winter Maxi Skirt" is a rare bird that I have been planning to catch ever since seeing its fierceness on Sydney (of The Daybook fame, le duh)... & I have finally made it mine
{ What I Wore: J.Crew turtleneck, leopard belt, snood & maxi skirt // Seams to Be (Etsy Shop) hat {won in a giveaway} // Charlotte Russe booties // Michael Kors Watch }
{ Get the Look }
knit beanie {$28.00, exact one!} + handmade snood {$48, from Etsy} + turtleneck sweater {$29.99, exact one} + leopard belt  {$49.50, exact one, now 30% off} + maxi skirt {$29.99} + booties {buy one, get one for $15.50 from Charlotte Russe}

Can we talk about the thick tights I am hiding under this swath of fabric... heavenly warmth!
While this outfit proves to me that maxi skirts do indeed work for Winter (yay extra layers!), it also reminds me that given my crazy shed-a-licious tan dog, I should never leave the house wearing un-lint rolled black tops ever again. (sorrrrry guys!)

Because I had so much fun the first time (& to apologize for my Doug-fur covered sweater) I am over on Because Shanna Said So giving away another $50 J.Crew giftcard! Woot!

You can enter here or there, just enter!

Haven't gotten your fill of giveaway goodies yet!?
Check out the SUPER FAB group giveaway I am participating in here {with a PRIZE package of $200+!!!}

P.S. Today I am linking up with Long Distance Loving's Friday Fancies. See more outfit crushes { here }

weekend wear

 {What I Wore: Oasap tote bag (c/o) // J.Crew baseball tee (similar $15, similar $29), maxi skirt (similar $39), gladiator sandals // Target sunnies ($15) }
Not much is more satisfying than heading out on a Saturday to get some work done on the list of errands that inevitably piles up every week. Comfortable clothes and shoes are a must for making this icky but necessary errand running comfortable - but it is a functional bag that is the hero of tackling my to-do list.

This bag from Oasap is not only easy on the eyes (look at those fierce studs!) but big enough for farmer's market goodies and my laptop (yes, grad students even work on the weekends!), has pockets for my keys and phone, and 3 strap options make carrying it all a breeze!

my heart is in Manchester, TN

This is the first time since I have lived in Nashville that I am not letting my inner hippie loose down at Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN. Bonnaroo was my first music festival, and while it is quite a struggle to camp out for 4 days, stand in an open field in 100+ temps, and figure out what to do with 5 day old hair... the music and the people and dancing with my friends until 4am  make it SOOO worth it!
To everyone who is down on the farm in Manchester right now... live it up! I will just be listening to The Shins, the Chili Peppers, and The Beach Boys in my ear buds at work, dreaming I am at the What Stage right there with you!
This summer has already provided opportunities so far to soak up the beautiful weather and chill with friends al fresco, and I can't wait for what the rest of summer holds!
These are pictures from last Saturday's Tour de Fat in Centennial Park
Maybe if the boyfriend would smile for my pictures, I wouldn't have to post these awkward ones... hehe
What!? Your city doesn't have its own Parthenon!? Shame
It was a wonderful day of bikes, beers, and my babes (aka friends... had to keep up the alliteration!)
Just starting the dog days of summer
After a day in the park, I threw on my trusty chambray shirt and continued to rock out in my jersey skirt... I might just be living and sleeping in it at this point!

Here is my favorite song from a local band that I love, Moon Taxi (currently playing at the 'Roo)
I think you will like it too!

blazer prep

Good morning! Continuing my week of embracing closet staples.
 I hope you are all on the same page as me, in that closet staples are staples because they help stretch the life of your fun, inexpensive, trendy pieces, but stand by you year after year.
Take this new J.Crew maxi skirt... I mixed up it by pulling the skirt up to my armpits to make it a jersey dress, and threw a closet staple on top... the blazer
done and done
Blazers are perfect year 'round, and during the summer months I find myself craving a simple white blazer, as well as light bright colors to throw over flimsy sundresses and shorts
I will take any of these colors to add to my basic blazer collection of white, navy & black

{ What I wore: J.Crew maxi skirt (similar here & here) // Urban Outfitters blazer (similar) // Kate Spade belt (I think I need this matching purse!) // Target wedges // House of Harlow bracelet }

Are blazers work horses in your closet like they are in mine?
What color blazer are you craving this season?
Happy hump day!

to the max

Hey hey... it's Jessica here, late on the trend and kicking myself... again.
Maxi skirts... best thing ever... why am I just figuring this out!?

When I received my summer reward card from J.Crew, I knew that I wanted to try something new, and this swath of fabric caught my eye immediately. Despite being floor length, I find this style of skirt to be flattering, camouflaging and helps to keep the heat out and cool in. Being "petite" isn't even going to stop me from rocking this look all summer long... I'll just keep pretending I am 5'8"... same old same old
{ What I wore: J.Crew maxi skirt // Steve Maden bow flats (love these) // H&M clutch & tank (similar) }
Gotta get a shot of the cute flats, but I can't wait to wear my new love with heels too!
Have you jumped into the maxi skirt trend yet?
How do you wear yours? I am still experimenting and would love some more ideas!
