I have been wanting to take the plunge for forever, but always chickened out at the last minute.
My dream? To be a red head!
I went from having virgin, un-dyed hair to a new shade of dark red, & it only took 3 hours in the salon!
This is the first step to my eventual dream red-shade. As my hair had never seen dye before, it will take a few more visits before I get all the color & dimensions I dream of, but I am already in love with this new look!
BEFORE // AFTER* *the true to life color is hard to capture, I am still looking for the best light in which to photograph my new essence |
So this first time hair dye-er is looking for your tips...
How do you keep your shade looking fresh?
Any particular shampoos, products I need for my newly red hair?
What I am most surprised about so far, how different all my lipsticks look now!
Ca-razy!
P.S. For any of you Nashville ladies, Rachel at Fruition Salon is my girl, & she is amazing!
When I first started going to her, she had the most gorgeous red hair, so I knew she was the one for me!
**Update: Just realized that I get to cross this off my "30 Before 30" list #25!
So gorgeous girl! :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! You look great! I secretly want to be a red head too, but i just don't have the right coloring for it!
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica, the color looks great. My experience is that sulfate-free products don't strip hair color and thus it lasts longer. Just to name a few, Infusium 23 and L'oreal offer sulfate-free lines...
ReplyDeleteYou look fantastic, Jessica! You definitely have the pretty skin tone to pull this off, not everyone could (myself included!).
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous with the new hair color! You should definitely switch a shampoo/conditioner that is made for colored treated hair so the color will last longer.

Wow, your hair looks really good! Love you as a red head! I think dying hair is so fun! I left my natural color at 18 (it was a sandy blonde color) and went completely blonde... then went to a rich brown, then dark brown, then black and ever since have been a shade of brown. I have always thought of going back to blonde but I don't have the guts to do red! I love the look though!

Your hair looks great! and good for you for only now dying your hair! I've been doing it forever.. bad! haha but it looks great! I suggest using John Freida products and try not to wash your hair everyday because red tends to fade very quickly! <3

You wannabe! haha ;) I love how it turned out, but jees, 3 hoirs is SO long :o I always am in and out in 30 minutes, haha. Can't wait to see what it will look like when it's 100% the way you want it to be :) x
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I decided to go red a few years ago and I loved it, but the root upkeep was more than I wanted to deal with, since my hair grows so fast. My best tip is just to use a really good conditioner.

I love the red : ) Ever since I went red from blond I will never go back. It's a paint to upkeep...but worth it for the compliments.

You have to keep up with coloring every 3-4 weeks (depending on how much you wash your hair)
ReplyDeleteLovely red!

You look incredible with red hair!! She did a great job. I would suggest getting Redkin. I highlight my hair on a regular basis and that seems to work for me! There might be something more specific for redheads, though.

Red looks fabulous on you! =)

I like this shade because although it's red, it's not overpowering. Dark red looks great on girls who were a dark brunette before- like you!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Jessica!! I used to dye my hair red, and used Redken products. It is a lot of upkeep, and it does fade, but it is fun fun fun!!

When I dyed my hair red, I tried to refrain from washing my hair as often. There are shampoo & Conditioners out there which will help keep the red fresh. However, my biggest advice is to not wash it everyday. especially in the beginning.

The hair looks so good on you!!!! love it :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Red suits you ;-) Please share suggestions on the shampoos and conditioners. I'm a (fake) red head myself and I really need to invest in some better products to keep my color from fading as well as keep my hair moisturized. Thanks doll!!

ReplyDeleteHow fun! Love the red tint. Can't wait to see the full blown end result!
ReplyDeleteI love the red tint on you! I like the Alterna UV shampoo & conditioner. Lots of color protectors. But whatever you pick, make sure it's sulfate free, that will really strip the red out.
ReplyDeleteYou look great! I was a blonde for three+ years and just went back to brunette. Annnnd I'm super crazy about protecting my color these days. From all I've read, here's what I do: I only wash my hair every other day; I deep condition once a week; I shampoo with warm water and always rinse my conditioner with cold water; I use a heat protectant before drying; and I only use sulfate-free shampoo/conditioner. I told you I was crazy. Hope this helps :)
ReplyDeleteI love the red! I too have been contemplating red, but I'm a chicken!

Congrats! I swore by redkin color extend when I was blond. It was super moisturizing, and kept my hair from being too damaged from the color.
ReplyDeleteYou look great as a red head. I've never dyed my hair either but I've heard that the shampoo for colored hair is a must.
