Oh the wonderful world of blogging.
Lordy how I had zero clue what I was getting into when I started on this journey almost 2 years ago now.
I have loved learning new things pretty much every day, meeting such wonderful & inspiring ladies, learning about new brands, interacting with you guys through comments & giveaways & developing in my personal style since I hit publish on my first post back in October 2011.
But seriously, one of my favorite things to come from blogging is my new-found interest in photography.
I am by NO means a photographer. However, the challenge of taking my own outfit photographs has been the school of hard knocks & I am constantly trying to hone my skills & get to the next level.
I shudder when I look back at where I first started with a point & shoot camera, but at the same time smile at the growth & a new hobby that I think will bring me joy for years to come.
Right now my Canon Rebel T2i with the 50 mm lens serves me well, but I love browsing photography shops dreaming of new camera gadgets to add to my clutch.
And I actually just inherited a vintage Minolta SRT 101 camera (as seen in these photos) - I can't wait to get this bad boy cleaned up & start taking pug pictures with this new toy.
What's been your favorite blogging outcome?
Any new photography hobbyists out there?
I am so happy that I got these lace shorts on super sale a few Summers back.
If you are looking for your perfect pair of lace shorts, these are my current favorites:

Fizz and Frosting
My favorite blogging outcome has definitely been all the new people I've met in my area!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post. Those shorts are adorable too. I just got my 50mm lens in the mail last night. Took my first outfit pics with them but they were ALL blurry. Learning as we go here. I think blogging has also started a photography hobby in me as well. It's a fun, but expensive, hobby.

I love the look of lace shorts, but don't own a pair (yet!)
ReplyDeleteLove the shorts! I'm awful at taking pictures of myself, a combination of laziness and impatience, but I'm working on it - nice post!

Love those lace shorts! I've only really ever seen white ones & they remind me a leetle too much of a tablecloth. But these...now these are fab!
ReplyDeleteWhat's your nail color - it's so pretty! I'm always looking for pinks to add to my collection :-)
Your photos came out really good! Teach me your ways lady :)
ReplyDeleteI struggle with photography since my boyfriend isn't usually around in the waking hours (ha!) to take my pictures. I'm experimenting with a tripod situation and am totally dreaming of a new camera as well! By the way, I love your J Crew sweater!

Those shorts look like so much fun! I find myself gravitating more and more towards neutral tops and brighter bottoms.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite blogging outcome is connecting with other bloggers. I have always enjoyed meeting people online with similar interests through message boards and such, and blogging has been a great outlet for that too.
my favorite blogging outcome has DEFINITELY been meeting people! and i loveeee photography!
ReplyDeleteI love the lace shorts, so feminine. I actually just started blogging, kind of a daily journal right now. Your blog and others have really inspired me so maybe I can inspire others too.
ReplyDeleteI think it is the reflection about the moment you are in or were in when you're writing the post. I think about what I do more when I blog about it and it then becomes an experience. The experience of wearing that dress for the first time or the experience of the show that attended while wearing that pair of pants. I'm way more about the writing than the photography.
ReplyDeleteThat's something that I totally never even considered! Loved hearing your perspective!

I LOVE photography! And I certainly love your commitment to having a photo-shoot essentially every day of your life just to share with readers like me! Playing around with my Canon 60D, I taught myself how to completely work in manual almost 100% of the time! I think blogging and photography are such a great team because it constantly reminds you to hold on to every moment with a photo or a thought/idea that you want to share with others. Such a beautiful concept :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Love the shorts on you, especially with the high waste! I'm a high waste girl too and have a baby pink pair and a super colorful pair that I bought last summer. However, my now 8 months super pregnant body can only fit in all things stretchy!

Thanks lady! I got the nail polish in my Birchbox a few months back. It is by a brand called Ruby Wing, and this particular color is "Peony". It is supposed to change color in the sunlight... pretty cool!
ReplyDeletexx
Oh yes, the 50 mm lens was a learning curve me too! I took lots of pug pictures trying to perfect my craft! I am currently working on a post for the tips I learned for getting sharp photos with the 50 mm lens... so stay tuned!
ReplyDeletexx
Thank you lady, I really appreciate it! And yes, my pugs are my best practicing material!!
ReplyDeletexx
Thanks - to both!! :)
ReplyDeletexx
Girl, you need to get on that! I like the look of this relaxed style, but now I am wanting a more fitted pair for wearing to the beach! This is a style that is here to stay in my wardrobe!
ReplyDeletexx
I hear ya lady - all of the wonderful women I have met has been amazing!
ReplyDeletexx
Aw, thanks! I have written a previous post about my remote/tripod situation, but am currently working on a post about my behind the camera settings/post-processing routine... stay tuned :)
ReplyDeletexx
Get yourself a remote ASAP - it makes tripod photography so much less of a headache! More power to tripod/self-photographers!!
ReplyDeletexx
I love bright bottoms too... can ya tell?? ;)
ReplyDeleteBlogging has been such a wonderful way to connect with women all over the country, and a few from around the world, that have similar interests to me! Y'all are my break from science & there isn't anything I would rather be doing!
xx
Meeting wonderful women like you Miss Molly have made blogging SO much more fun :)
ReplyDeletexx
Aw, thank you so much! It still blows my mind that I am able to connect with bloggers near & far through this little corner of the internet!
ReplyDeletexx

ReplyDeletewoah girl, Canon 60D... that's fancy! And more power to you for teaching yourself to shoot all manual! I took a class before I was comfortable enough to take it to that level!
Seriously, I definitely think that I am more mindful of my surroundings & the little moments in my day to day life thanks to by new found photography hobby.... and Instagram :)
xx
well thank you my dear... must be tricks of the camera, because I'm not sure my 5 foot 3 inch frame really has them ;)

When I started my blog, my boyfriend took outfit pictures with me everyday because we were both home during the day. Now he has gotten busier and I don't get many pictures at all! I need to invest in a tripod, remote, and improve my photography skills so I can take nice pictures on my own. What do you use to take your own pictures?

Exploring My Style
GIVEAWAY!
I do a tripod & remote situation in my alley. I have posted about my selfie gear before (search photography on my blog), but plan to do more posts about my exact routine & processing! I think taking ones own photos is very gratifying & I wish you the best of luck! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely buying a new camera within the next month! It's been tough to factor into my budget, but by selling some old (and, frankly never read) text books and old clothes I'm about to finally invest! I'm sure it will be a disaster at first given my inability to quickly master technology, but I'm excited to learn! Plus, the next time I travel my pics will be awesome!
