The Summer trend that is buzzing all around the internets... the crop top!
As a child growing up in the 90s, this is the second time I have seen this style take its 15 minutes in the spotlight... (#ifeelold)
Do you embrace the crop?
I think I might take the mini crop plunge a la Blair, Nicole & Kendi!
Paired with high-waisted pants & midi skirts I think this trend can be down right chic!

But I am totally applauding the bare midriff boldness of the ladies on the bottom row as well!

If you are ready to bare the belly, shop my favorite selection of slightly shrunken tops:

Does this trend make you scratch your head in wonder or hop on the bandwagon?
What is your favorite way to rock the crop top?
Well, it kind of makes me scratch my head. It reminds me of Kelly Kapowski from Saved by the Bell. I don't quite have the abs to rock a crop top, but I think other people look amazing in them!
ReplyDeleteI definitely like crop tops better when paired with slightly higher-waisted pieces, but I don't think I have the confidence to rock one!

Fizz and Frosting
The ONLY one I've seen that I've liked (from this decade) is from AJ (http://www.ajwearsclothes.com/2013/07/aj-wears-cropped-tee.html). In general I think it needs to go away.
ReplyDeletejust read an article on this on the subway this a.m.! they said it's basically great for any body type because the area it's exposing (ribs not belly) is typically the smallest part of any woman's body. i think i'm gonna try it ;)
ReplyDeleteCute...but not for me lol
ReplyDeleteWow, it blows my mind that that second set of images (with the links to purchase) is from this decade. They seriously look like they stepped right out of the early 90s. Those high-waisted stonewashed jean shorts are soooo unattractive. I don’t know, there’s just something about that look that I think makes women look like little girls with shirts that are too short so their bellies stick out!
ReplyDeleteI'm torn. I think with a high waisted skirt they look cute, but I doubt I'll ever make the plunge,
ReplyDeleteThey all look great but I definitely not think I could pull it off. Can't believe I usedto rock these when I was high school. What was my mom thinking lol?!
ReplyDeletelove a good crop! stopping over from shannon said so!

ReplyDeletePretty sure I'm too old for this trend. Although during the heat wave I was really wishing I had one in my closet!

gorgeous selection! i am digging crops and midis too!
ReplyDeletekw ladies in navy
I mean, i think it looks good on some people, but I definitely know it's not something I would ever attempt...
ReplyDeleteYou could totally rock this, but me....no way!! I like to be covered up all the way! I do think a littleeee bit is pretty cute, like the top row!
ReplyDeletedancingwithashleyblog.com
I completely love this trend...on other people. I'm just not ballsy enough to do it myself when my midriff shows! I think Blair pulls it off the best!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!

Don't forget about my Firmoo giveaway!
Crop tops are definitely on my fashion "no" list. If they were paired with a high-waisted bottom then I might consider it but that wouldn't leave me with many ways to wear it in order to justify the purchase. Oh well.

Exploring My Style
I love the look of crop tops! I've been wanting to try one out myself, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm not sure if they'll work on my curvier frame, but I definitely want to try it out!
ReplyDeletedembabies have assured that I will NEVER rock a crop top. I'd say "again," but I don't think I've ever done it.
ReplyDeleteI just can't with crop tops. I think they look great on the ladies above, but I don't think this is a trend I'd revisit.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE them I love the idea of them, but I don't own one as of right now. I think I would only be comfortable out in public wearing one with a high-waist maxi skirt so at least my legs were completely covered!
ReplyDeleteI love this trend, just not sure I have the balls to bare my not-so-flat belly lol. I think before I decide, I need to try a few on!

I'm a fan....for people over 18. My 17 yr old stepdaughter has been rocking these all summer at her mom's house & they are going into the deep, dark recesses of her closet the second she gets back here. Call me a prude but, I am so NOT ok with it for high school girls (as a child of the 90's I was never, ever allowed to wear them when I was in high school. Didn't really want to either, though).
ReplyDeleteFor adults though...if you got it, rock it!
I just couldn't do it. Ha, I wrote about this in top 5 worst fashion trends hehehe
ReplyDeleteI love this trend and I absolutely adore how Kendi pulled hers off. I just don't know if I have guts...

Hahaha I'm right there with you about seeing crop tops again since I think we're the same age (definitely feeling old)! I like the look on everyone else but just don't think it's for me!

I personally love them if you're fit. Show it off!
ReplyDeleteI've seen it on other bloggers and think "dang, they rock that" but then I get super self-conscious and couldn't do it myself. Plus I have no idea where I would wear it!

haha! A total Kelly Kapowski staple!
ReplyDeletexx
AJ certainly is fabulous in hers! I do love the look of the high waist skirt that is more covered up - ain't nobody wanting to be looking at your whole stomach!
ReplyDeletexx
hmm.... I've never thought about it like that... interesting!
ReplyDeletexx
ha. ha. I know Forever21 is reallllly hoping that the 90s come back in full force!
ReplyDeletexx
I'm right there with you lady... I like it, but I know that I would probably only rock it once & be done.... decisions decisions!
ReplyDeletexx
bahahahaha! Love that comment! I think that every time I listen to the songs that I tried to sneak by her in high school... soooo not ok!
ReplyDeletexx
I could be down with re-living some Spice World! ;)
ReplyDeletexx
Thanks for stopping by today! Love that you are a confident cropper!
ReplyDeletexx
maybe a behind closed doors cropper? I'm a in the house only sweatpants rocker & I've got no shame! ;)
ReplyDeletexx
Really is a fun combo - kind of 50's pin-up if worn with a pencil skirt!
ReplyDeletexx
The little sneak peek of skin is a fun look for hot summer days!
ReplyDeletexx
You and that bump would be adorable! Maybe for the beach??
ReplyDeletexx
but seriously, what can't Blair rock!!?? Love the little sneak peek of skin!
ReplyDeletexx
This is one trend I am definitely scared to try, but if I were to do it, I would pair it with the high waisted pants.

Agreed, not the most versatile piece... or one with staying power probably either...
ReplyDeletexx
A commenter above mentioned about how surprisingly flattering they can be if you are only showing a sneak peek of your rib cage... I found that interesting! Definitely something to think about!
ReplyDeletexx
Oh dembabies! Would you call a tankini a crop top... because we definitely rocked the world outta those!
ReplyDeletexx
I think paired with a high waisted pencil skirt, with only one rib wide area showing it could be rather chic.. on many sizes!
ReplyDeletexx
you sound like a good step-mom :)
ReplyDeleteI wore them as a little kid & it was "cute"... but as a teen it might come off the wrong way :o
xx
And this is why I love hearing what everyone says on posts like this - some love it, some hate it. That's what is so fun about personal style! I'm headed over to see what the other 4 are ;)
ReplyDeletexx
oh yea, Kendi's slightly looser one is pretty fun! You could totally pull it off pretty lady!
ReplyDeletexx
I hear ya lady - on both counts! Maybe if the shirt juuuuust touches the bottom of my pants I could go for it! Still working on that courage!
ReplyDeletexx
Great point! And milk it while it's trendy!
ReplyDeletexx
Maybe the cluuuub... since I go there allll the time! ha ;)

ReplyDeleteYour welcome:)
I am not even brave enough to wear a 2 piece at pool side so this trend is a pass for me. I think even if I had rock hard abs this would still be a pass for me. You can totally rock this!

Normal women over 22 have a hard time wearing a crop top without looking trashy. A rare few with the right body in the right place can pull off the crop top. In my opinion anyhow.
