trends that make you go hmm... crop tops

The Summer trend that is buzzing all around the internets... the crop top!
As a child growing up in the 90s, this is the second time I have seen this style take its 15 minutes in the spotlight... (#ifeelold)

Do you embrace the crop?

I think I might take the mini crop plunge a la Blair, Nicole & Kendi!
Paired with high-waisted pants & midi skirts I think this trend can be down right chic!

But I am totally applauding the bare midriff boldness of the ladies on the bottom row as well!
top: 1 // 2 // 3
bottom: 4 // 5 // 6

If you are ready to bare the belly, shop my favorite selection of slightly shrunken tops:

top: 1 // 2 // 3
middle: 4 // 5 //
bottom: 7 // 8 // 9
Does this trend make you scratch your head in wonder or hop on the bandwagon?
What is your favorite way to rock the crop top?

  1. Well, it kind of makes me scratch my head. It reminds me of Kelly Kapowski from Saved by the Bell. I don't quite have the abs to rock a crop top, but I think other people look amazing in them!

  2. I definitely like crop tops better when paired with slightly higher-waisted pieces, but I don't think I have the confidence to rock one!

  3. The ONLY one I've seen that I've liked (from this decade) is from AJ (http://www.ajwearsclothes.com/2013/07/aj-wears-cropped-tee.html). In general I think it needs to go away.

  4. just read an article on this on the subway this a.m.! they said it's basically great for any body type because the area it's exposing (ribs not belly) is typically the smallest part of any woman's body. i think i'm gonna try it ;)

  5. Wow, it blows my mind that that second set of images (with the links to purchase) is from this decade. They seriously look like they stepped right out of the early 90s. Those high-waisted stonewashed jean shorts are soooo unattractive. I don’t know, there’s just something about that look that I think makes women look like little girls with shirts that are too short so their bellies stick out!

  6. I'm torn. I think with a high waisted skirt they look cute, but I doubt I'll ever make the plunge,

  7. They all look great but I definitely not think I could pull it off. Can't believe I usedto rock these when I was high school. What was my mom thinking lol?!

  11. I mean, i think it looks good on some people, but I definitely know it's not something I would ever attempt...

  12. You could totally rock this, but me....no way!! I like to be covered up all the way! I do think a littleeee bit is pretty cute, like the top row!

  13. I completely love this trend...on other people. I'm just not ballsy enough to do it myself when my midriff shows! I think Blair pulls it off the best!

    Have a great day!

  14. Crop tops are definitely on my fashion "no" list. If they were paired with a high-waisted bottom then I might consider it but that wouldn't leave me with many ways to wear it in order to justify the purchase. Oh well.

  15. I love the look of crop tops! I've been wanting to try one out myself, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm not sure if they'll work on my curvier frame, but I definitely want to try it out!

  16. dembabies have assured that I will NEVER rock a crop top. I'd say "again," but I don't think I've ever done it.

  17. I just can't with crop tops. I think they look great on the ladies above, but I don't think this is a trend I'd revisit.

  18. I LOVE them I love the idea of them, but I don't own one as of right now. I think I would only be comfortable out in public wearing one with a high-waist maxi skirt so at least my legs were completely covered!

  19. I love this trend, just not sure I have the balls to bare my not-so-flat belly lol. I think before I decide, I need to try a few on!

  20. I'm a fan....for people over 18. My 17 yr old stepdaughter has been rocking these all summer at her mom's house & they are going into the deep, dark recesses of her closet the second she gets back here. Call me a prude but, I am so NOT ok with it for high school girls (as a child of the 90's I was never, ever allowed to wear them when I was in high school. Didn't really want to either, though).

For adults though...if you got it, rock it!

  25. I've seen it on other bloggers and think "dang, they rock that" but then I get super self-conscious and couldn't do it myself. Plus I have no idea where I would wear it!

  40. A commenter above mentioned about how surprisingly flattering they can be if you are only showing a sneak peek of your rib cage... I found that interesting! Definitely something to think about!

  50. I am not even brave enough to wear a 2 piece at pool side so this trend is a pass for me. I think even if I had rock hard abs this would still be a pass for me. You can totally rock this!

  51. Normal women over 22 have a hard time wearing a crop top without looking trashy. A rare few with the right body in the right place can pull off the crop top. In my opinion anyhow.
