trends that make you go hmm... combat boots

Growing up I loved the retro clothing seen in family photos - the bell bottoms my mom wore in the 70s, the beaded clutches from my grandmothers' hay days in the 50s... but never did I think the era of my childhood, the 90s, would come full circle so quickly (show what I know!)
I can remember well begging my parents for a pair of Dr. Martens (a la Daria) and being denied over and over. I guess now is my chance - combat boots are back!

I actually am digging the look of lace-up boots with tights and dresses for Fall.
Are combat boots on your Fall shopping list?

  1. Yep, I definitely begged my parents for Doc Martens combat boots too! I remember wanting, needing (and not getting, sigh) a floral printed pair. I also like the look of these boots with tights and skirts right now, but I like the sleeker, less clunky pairs (not the thick sole of the Dr. Martens).

  2. I do like that last look with the lace up boots and tights. I definitely wanted a pair of these when I was growing up too, but now I think I'm alright without them. I have two other pairs of boots that I'll use this fall and winter.

  3. I'm not a huge fan of the combat boots. I remember begging my parents for pipe lee jeans.

  4. Ahhh yes, I definitely had me a pair of Doc Martens back in the day!  I loved them and wore them all the time, but this is one of those things that I think can be really dated if you already wore the trend the first time around, especially in the same way (floral dress + combat boots = so early 90s for me).  Fun to see a trend from my childhood come back so soon though! :)

  5. Oh boy, I think I passed on this trend before and probably will again. I don't think they really fit my life and style.

  6. I'm afraid I'm much too boring for boots, although I love the way it looks on the girl in the snow!

  7. I begged too, but my mom wouldn't spend the money! And I couldn't save up that much. We had this one place at the mall that sold them (it was this smoky, weird, head shop place) and I'd go in and look all the time. I would have been sooo cool. Mean mom!

Now though, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think I am right in the cusp of being too old to wear them. I would feel like I was trying too hard. Does that make sense?
