that girl

Here & Now : bold black & white
{ What I Wore: Old Navy dress // Gap jacket (psst... I found mine on eBay) // Target wedges // Golden Ponies leopard clutch }
Here & Now : bold black & white
I talked about my love for bold black & white stripes yesterday & here is the proof!
I actually saw the inspiration for this outfit on Instagram & knew that this dress needed to be in my closet ASAP! (looks like this dress is currently sold out in b&w, but totally worth stalking for a re-stock)
Here & Now : bold black & white
I am so happy that I jumped on this graphic dress & scored it for a song on one of those perpetual Old Navy sales. But I have a little secret for making Old Navy dresses look more luxe than they actually are - a slip.
Here & Now : bold black & white
Yup, that old fashioned thing that your granny wears.
A slip makes your dress un-see-through, prevents VPL (visible pantie lines), & gives you peace of mind that your dress will not stick to your legs after sitting down during a hot Southern summer.

I'm that girl that my friends make fun of for pulling out her slip to get ready to go out to the clubs, but I won't leave town with out it!

Are you a slip believer?
Doesn't seem like many stores still sell this undervalued undergarment, any tips for places for ladies look for a slip?

  4. I totally have some dresses that could use a slip. Or maybe some Spanx. Anywho I love the striped dress/denim jacket combo! Both of them are on my spring shopping list - don't know if you happened to see that post on Saturday :)

  9. I kick myself daily for not buying that dress when it was online for $20. What an idiot! I hope they will re-stock, but sometimes they just don't- so annoying.

And I love your top about wearing a slip. That's not something many women your age are familiar with, but it's so essential!

  16. I definitely have a slip that I've had since high school since I haven't found one I like better. It's so nice having piece of mind with skirts that couldddd be see through in the right light.

    Really loving that dress!

  19. My friends make fun of me for wearing slips, they call me a Granny when they see that I am wearing one! I have several, different colors and lengths. I swear by them. One of my biggest pet peeves is when skirts and dresses cling to all the wrong places! And yes they are also great for see-thru issues too.

Great post and outfit. I have a similar dress from Old Navy.

  20. I love this dress on you - what a great summer piece! And there is no shame in wearing a slip - these days you have to because skirts are often so thin! =)

  21. I just LOVE this outfit! I'm such a fan of stripes with a denim jacket! And I just recently got my first slip because I'm sick of skirts riding up/getting stuck on my legs. I'm yet to try it out but I'm not sure if it's going to work right - it's tight and I think a bit too short. What sort are yours? (hahaha this sounds so funny, comparing slips like grannies) :)

  22. I have a few dresses that would be much better with slips but can't seem to find any that don't scream granny! (I end up wearing spanx instead but those can be a huge pain in the ass.) Any suggestions for where a Canadian girl can pick up a cute and short slip?

  23. This outfit is so fun and spring-y! I love that you paired the stripes with leopard. I was just thinking recently about a slip when I tried on a sorta see-through dress recently (which I obvs did not buy, since it was see through haha) and now you've got me thinking that I should really get one!

  24. Jessica, you look DARLING in this outfit! I love the striped dress with the denim jacket, and those wedges are amazing. This might be one of my favorites of your outfits!! I love slips, too...but I can't find mine!!! This reminds me that I need to find a new one :)

  30. I honestly haven't worn a slip since I was a kid, but it would be such a good idea with some of my dresses and skirts! It really never occurred to me, sad to say. I love this dress though! You have clearly been finding gems at the Old Navy lately!

  40. No kidding, a slip! My mom is always telling me to wear one and I'm like Mom...I don't even know WHERE to get a slip! Those are some serious benefits though! That does make the dress look a little fancier. And agreed on the Old Navy sales! Love em!

  43. Sorry I missed replying to your comment Corinne! I love my "half-length" (AKA mid-thigh) loose slip, I don't ever have to worry about it riding up, it just lies below my skirt layer! I am writing a full post about this exciting topic tomorrow :)

  44. No worries Jess! Haha look forward to reading it :)

  45. Unfortunately, slips are getting harder and harder to find. My best recourse seems to be thrift stores (yeah, like I go anywhere else anyway). That said...I own 'a few'. 3 different lengths, 3 different colors, some full slips & some half slips.
I've discovered a new trick for hiding lines--double slipping under snug outfits. One slip underneath it all keeps the shirt from riding up with friction, and a full slip on top (of the shirt, yes) hides the shirt line from being seen through the dress. You may think it's overkill, but everything looks sooooo sleek now!
