I have seriously been trying to keep too much wedding bid-ness (how my Memaw says it) from making it to the blog. 1. I would like for the big day to be a special surprise for everyone 2. This is a fashion/personal style blog & I don't want you to go running for the hills 3. I love everything & have a hard time narrowing things down, so once the flood gates open, I would be afraid that they wouldn't ever stop.
But being that I would make a horrible little boy with his finger in the dike (get your mind out of the gutter & read the classic tale here), here goes letting just a trickle of wedding planning out :)
Here's the deal, we have ZERO clue what Ty & his groomsmen are going to wear & I just can't seem to get a handle on men's fashion what-so-ever. So I'm throwing this one out to you guys!
When people ask to me to describe our wedding I usually go silent & then moments later start blurting out buzz words that I read in Martha Stewart Weddings... I mean, if Martha thinks they are a good idea... I'm game.
So, in
And my question is, what do dudes wear to a wedding that is modern boho, relaxed romantic, rustic, set in Nashville in the evening, with lots of layered whites & ivories with hints of blush & navy?
Pinterest is telling me that this mix-n-matched groomsmen look is in, what are your thoughts? (Seriously, if not for you guys, Ty might be waiting for me at the alter in his Birthday Suit... then again....)
See the sources for these pictures & more on my Wedding Inspiration Pinterest page {here} |
Also, to source these images I searched "hipster wedding" on Pinterest & found this gem... enjoy :)
Hands down I totally love the guy with the awesome shoes and bow tie kissing his bride. I feel like the mish mash of guy outfits make the event look informal but if that's what your going for...
ReplyDeleteI like the mismatched look when it's all in the same color family (row 3), but in the picture in row 1 and the bottom row, the guy in brown pants just looks out of place, like he wandered into the picture.
ReplyDeleteI just went to you piniterest page and we have the same style type. I love the flowers you are looking at and all those hippy dresses. I so want one. There is one on my pinterest page I am dying to have.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.pinterest.com/pin/24980972906077259/ I don't know how it will look on me but I can image anything different for me.
I like a suit with options for different ties and socks for the guys. All in the same color family but some wear navy and white gingham bow ties, others wear a solid navy skinny tie, etc. But all are wearing navy pants/white shirt/suspenders or a navy suit. Just a thought!

i love mixed match and less formal! the looks above are fantastic! let them pick their shoes, shirts in a color range and ties! they'll be more relaxed and it'll look fab and original

Oh! I used to work for a bridal magazine (I still write freelance articles for the pub) and I love giving wedding advice :)
ReplyDeleteSo if your bridesmaids are mismatched, the mismatched groomsmen look is awesome. But if your ladies are all in one dress, the gents should all look the same too. If you go mismatched, remember to keep everyone in the same color family. Otherwise you run the risk of most of your folks doing one thing, with one or two people doing something else and looking completely out of place.
That said, I loooooove the laid-back look of groomsmen in dark dress slacks, a white button-down, a light vest and a quirky bow-tie. (Like the second guy from the left in the first all-men shot of your collage above.) Swapping out the vest for suspenders is cool too!
I really love the look of the gingham/bow ties for a boho wedding! I had my bridesmaids wear different dresses (all in the same color), but I had all the guys wear the same thing to keep things easier.

I think the mismatched look really only goes with a rustic/outdoor theme like the photos above. I couldn't see it working for an indoor wedding
ReplyDeleteMy husband was in a mix and matched groomsmen wedding, and they all looked great together. His requirements were gray/navy pants, tan or gray jacket optional, suspenders or bow tie. I'm a fan.
ReplyDeleteI like mix and matched, maybe with a similar thing as the bridesmades: gray suits or something. I do not like just vests instead of jackets though. They end up looking like extra Mumford Sons.
ReplyDeleteHa, I think the brown pants guy on the bottom row DID just wander into the picture... I didn't even notice that at first, thanks for pointing it out. We are thinking of telling the guys to all wear "charcoal gray" pants... hopefully that is narrow enough for the guys to pull it together!

Yup, I have a boho glam hippie dippie flower child living inside of me! Glad to hear I'm not alone :)

I like it! Thanks for helping me out :)

Thanks lady! I figure since the ladies are doing mix & match, it could be fun to let the guys do the same... I just need to nail down a color palette & not stress out about them getting too much sartorial freedom!

What a fabulous job - writing & thinking about lovely weddings all day! The girls are doing mismatched, so I really am leaning towards the same for the guys. Suspenders might just need to happen - I love that look!

Sounds wonderful! Thanks for sharing & helping me make up my fickle mind!
ReplyDeletexx
Oooh I'm a fan of that too! Thanks for sharing :)

Yea, thinking suspenders instead of vests... although, looking like a Mumford & Son is a good thing in my book! ;)

I do too so you are soooo not alone. I will probably follow your board since we are alike on that. =]
ReplyDeleteI love the gingham shirt with a tan suit. Depends on how formal you want the guys. And you want them to be comfortable. I think the mix matched looks could be fun, but all in the same color family? Then again, I know nothing about weddings! Good luck!
