drop hem gem

{What I Wore: TopShop drop hem dress // Gianni Bini T-Strap Heels // ModCloth crystal necklace // handmade freshwater pearl necklace // J.Crew glitter clutch }

{ Get the look: }
drop hem dress {exact ($84) // spluge (DVF)}+ T-strap heels + ladylike necklaces {here, here ($9!) here} + glitter clutch ($17)

Ok, I am going to be honest - I LOVE to shop online. Sometimes I go to my favorite spots (J.Crew, ShoeDazzle, Urban Outfitters to name a few) put things in my cart, and then close out of the internet... my version of digitally "trying" clothes on!
Just the trill of the hunt is fun for me.
Recently I have added TopShop to my online stalking habit. The scary sizing (seriously, why is this not universal by now!?) stopped me from making any purchases before, but I finally look a leap of sizing fate and made my first purchase this month. My inaugural haul included this red drop hem dress (size 2), and a cream peplum top (size 6) {worn here}
I initially loved how this dress is both classy and sassy, but ultimately I decided that this dress is going to be sent back (not before snapping some photos for you guys though!). The boyfriend said it best when he told me that I looked like a "tube"... maybe drop hem dresses that lack any tucking at the natural waist are not meant for petite (5'4" and under like me) ladies - live and learn
I had a blast styling up this dress, and learned something new about my fashion preferences... after all, I am a constant student of what defines "my" style
What trends have you tried and not liked lately?
Officially adding "drop hem" silhouettes to my no-list

  1. You look so cute! I love that dress and the way you accessorized to make it look vintage.

    I totally agree, I have fun just picking things out and putting them into my online cart, even if I can't afford any of it. It's fun to "window" shop online :)

  3. Online shopping is such a guilty pleasure of mine! It's so easy to just buy things with one click but my wallet often tells me otherwise :)

    The dress is really cute but I think it's a tad too big on you, so I can see why you're sending it back.

  5. Haha, yes my wallet needs to have a lecture with me too! I am a little frustrated with "sizing" these days... this dress is a "size 2" and the white peplum shirt that I wore in your BBQ bash link up was a "size 6"... the dress is too big and shapeless, while the shirt is actually on the very fitted side! What gives! Oh well, I got a fun photoshoot out of it first :)

  8. I fill up online carts then shut down the browser all the time, too!  The dress is cute, but I kind of understand the shape thing.  You could pull it off, but if that "tube" thought won't leave your head it would be tough to wear all night...  I admire that you can send it back even thought it is a cute dress.

  11. Ha-ha that's funny you snapped a few pictures before sending it back. I hear ya, there are just some styles that do not work on me.  I think I could join you here. I think it would make me look shorter, which does NOT need to happen.  I love the color of this dress though!

  13. I love the way you styled it! That necklace is gorgeous!

    I'm totally with you on the shopping! If it weren't for online shopping, I'd probably get so much more work done at work! lol

  14. hmmmm.... so I'm really confused by this dress. It's almost like if the drop waist was a few inches shorter or longer it could work...or even a little bit more oversized. Thanks for the pre-warning though. Another piece to add to the DOES NOT WORK for petites lists lol.

  18. I think you look fantastic in this, but can see how the looser waist would be bothersome.  High-waisted anything is on my personal no no list!

  20. I can't do drop hem either. It makes my legs look so short. The color looks great on you though. I don't do too much online shopping as sizing scares me as well.

  21. Thanks dear. I had to make the decision to send it back and then put it in the mail immediately... Before I changed my mind! I think it is a fun dress, but I envision it at the back of my closet collecting dust after only one or two wears, since I am not absolutely in love with it. Working on an intentional and function closet one will power struggle at a time! xx

  22. Thank you dear! Red is one of those colors that I just don't own a ton of, but I think I might need to work on changing that now! xx

  24. Oh yeah, I could not do the drop hem. I think it looks good on very few people - supermodels come to mind. Now you know, and can explore other shapes you've been tempted to try. I think I may have to try that peplum since it comes so highly recommended :)

  25. I think the dress is really cute. I love the way you styled it - it looks more vintage than brand new. I do agree though, that a bit more waist definition would be good.

    Online browsing/shopping is so fun, but I always end up buying something I don't really need, so I try to avoid it haha.
