stars & stripes forever

The fact that July 4th falls on a Wednesday this year has left me feeling a little swindled... a day off in the middle of the week (that I will end up working on anyways)!? no long weekend!? Sadness!
So instead, I am just going to be celebrating all week long... red clothes, come party with my blue clothes!
Since the days when I stood up at my local amusement park singing belting "You're a Grand Old Flag" (no those pictures are NOT coming out of the vault), I have been a fan of thematic dressing (those raging theme parties during college didn't hurt either)
The 4th of July inspires me to pull out the cut-off jorts, stripes, tank-tops, and anything that resembles a sparkler/firework.
Today I am rocking my first ever mullet skirt... I had been holding out on indulging in this trendy piece, but when I saw this skirt on Oasap, I knew it was meant to come be mine. Comfortable, cool, and flirty don't even begin to describe this amazing skirt... despite my reservations about adding a mullet skirt to my closet, I have already thought up several ways to remix this with my closet staples
{What I Wore: StyleMint Abbot Kinney tee // Oasap skirt (c/o) // Target wedges }
For some more 4th of July outfit inspiration check out the looks these fabulous ladies put together:
Sequins & Stripes is amping up a fun white sundress
SUILTSOY is going from daytime BBQ to roof top fire works in style
Damsel in Dior has rounded up a fabulous list of fun 4th of July appropriate outfits
A Fashion Gal & A Fireman put together looks for celebrating in the Hampton, San Fran & LA (all so good, but I love the dress she picked out for the Hamptons!)
Ramshackle Glam has capture the fun of the 4th with flag-loving stripes
Anna of Fash Boulevard blogged on Lauren Conrad's site about 3 looks for the 4th: Casual & Comfy, Beachy & Breezy, and Classy & Chic
Pink, You Rock is KILLING me with some chic patriotic nails... oh how I wish I had the patience!
...Love Maegan is drawing inspiration from magazine... (so right up my old school pin alley!)
Because You Only Live Once (YOLO) why not celebrate all week? I am linking up with Molly's #YOLOMonday... check out the other great posts {here}
When are you celebrating the 4th of July?
Have you already picked out your celebratory outfit?

  4. I love the high low hem of this skirt, so cute! My stupid office is open on the 4th and even though I could take the day off,  I think I'll be going in.  I feel totally robbed since last year my office closed for the holiday!

  8. I love your stars print skirt, so cute!  I hate holidays that are in the middle of the week, because then people are forced to take extra days off to make it a super long weekend... which is exactly what I did, haha. Hope you have a fabulous 4th, even if you have to work... go catch some fireworks afterwards! :)

  26. You look great!  LOVE that skirt.  And this is so 4th of July but not in a totally obvious way.  Love!  I'm actually looking forward to the break in the middle of the week.  Then again, Wednesdays are my early days (7:30am meeting at work every week) so I'm not complaining at all!  Although I'm a little worried about Thursday morning AFTER all the festivities!

    Duuude, so I saw on GMA this morning you guys hit 109 this weekend.  That is ridiculous!  Hope you were able to keep cool!

  30. You should totally go back and get them! I have to have a pair of black wedges for summer, and was devastated that my last pair died at the end of last year... but I instantly fell in love with these... they are comfortable, and holding up really well (I wear them a LOT!)

  49. Well I am happy that you are someone who will benefit from a mid-week break. I am actually celebrating the 3rd of July with some friends here in town, so even though I will be coming into lab on the 4th, I will hopefully get a little slack from my boss if I sleep in just a bit to recover from the festivities!

    And yes - it has been over 100 degrees here since last Thursday... riding my bike has not been so much fun during this weather! But as I type this some storm clouds are rolling in, so I hope they plan to bring some much needed relief to our area! The little pug has just about given up even trying to walk outside... poor snout-less thing!

  51.  Ok the image of poor Doug snortin' away made me chuckle.  Poor little guy.  We've been in the high 90s/low 100s for a while & Copa is feelin it too.  She only wants to go to parks with water, otherwise she'll run for the ball once & then head straight for shade.  I can't blame them with that fur coat they're always wearing!

  52. Have you heard of the "sock bun"? It is pretty much my favorite and easiest hairstyle... although it might just be my favorite because it IS the easiest! ha
    When I first discovered the sock bun, I posted a tutorial and some tips here:

  55. the 4th hasn't fallen in the middle of the week in years, I think i was convinced that we got a long weekend no matter what... they should just change it so you always get a monday or a friday, regardless of the actual date.
