friday's fancies: wedding guest

My lovely sister got married almost 6 (!!!) years ago and chose me to be her MOH. Lucky for me and her other bridesmaids, the outfit she chose for us to wear, didn't completely suck (thanks sis!)
(side note: seriously, how did people even plan weddings before Pinterest... no. thank. you!)
So today, I am linking up over on Long Distance Loving's Friday's Fancies theme of "Wedding Guest", but instead of showing you what to wear to a wedding, I am dealing out pointers of what to do with that bridesmaids get up after the ordeal is over!

Sarah's color was "Tiffany blue" and us bridesmaids wore top/skirt separates and some adorable bow heels. (how adorable is she! Such a youngin' back in 2006!)
FYI: I had just finished my summer job as a camp counselor/lifeguard and was SO tan!
Even though my MOH dress has hung in my closet without use for the last 6 years (moving with me through college, and then from Arkansas to Nashville), I recently looked at my ensemble in a new light. I have officially decided that this cute top (love that bow on the back) is the perfect topper with my skinnies jeans for a girls' night out.
{What I Wore: Genetic Denim skinnies // My Michelle heels // David's Bridal Bridesmaid top // Hobo Clutch }

{Get the look}
Not so sure that the tea length skirt or lucite kitten heels are going to ever see the light of day again (sorry Sarah!), but since I'm a hoarder I'll be holding on to them for the time when those trends rear their ugly heads again nonetheless!
Have you given any of your bridesmaids dresses another life as acceptable real-world garb? Or are they new residents at your local Goodwill?
3 more weddings this year - bring it on! (I will be sure to share more of my wedding guest fashion and bridesmaid pointers in the months to come!)
xx

  1. What a great idea!! That is a super cute girl's night out look! I have only been a bridesmaid once, and while I like the dress I wore, I haven't worn it since. It isn't too formal, so I could wear it to another wedding.

    I hope you have a fantastic weekend!!

  4. I LOVE that you're wearing the top to your bridesmaid ensemble, how creative! This makes me want to get creative with those old BM dresses in my closet! Anyway, I'm so glad I found your blog from the It List and Friday's Fancies, and now I'm glad to be following along!

  6. That is such a cute idea! It turned into an adorable top for a night out.

    I'm thinking of turning my wedding dress into a cocktail dress by shortening it and dying it a different color so I can wear it again. Just haven't gotten around to finding a seamstress though. Have a great weekend, Jessica!

  7. I planned my wedding before I knew of pinterest... I know, it's sad. But I'm thinking it was probably for the best, the last thing I needed was for all these extra ideas and ways for me to spend money, haha. :)

    Such a cute idea! I have a bunch of bridesmaids dresses sitting in my closet waiting for you to come over and give them new life! Have a great weekend!

  10. I bet you could rework that skirt too! Paired with a t=shirt and some funky accessories. It might be cute! I love how you are reusing the top. I wasn't so lucky with my MOH dress. Sadly :(

  12. Such a cute look!
    I let my sister borrow one of my bridesmaids dresses to wear on 80s day at her high school, lol. The bad thing was the dress was from 2006! I made her swear a picture of her in the dress would not end up on facebook and offend my friend though, lol! My most recent dress is going to get dyed and used for the formal dinner when I take my next cruise, I think.

  17. Love this!  When I first saw your title & first pic I thought, "is this girl really gonna tell us it's OK to wear skinnies & a tank to a wedding?!"  Haha..I should have known better.  I've never been a bridesmaid so I haven't had the "pleasure" of having to figure out what to do with an old bmaid dress.  I wonder if the skirt could be cut into something shorter & cuter?  I no NOTHING about sewing or altering clothes so don't take my word for it.

    Great skinnies BTW. :o)

  22. Ha, I had no illusions that any of that could be worn again, but you look cute! The whole shebang was planned in under 3 months and we had to take the dresses David's Bridal could get us, because we had bridesmaids in 3 states who needed fittings. If I had to do it all over again, I'd have my girls wear the black cocktail dresses of their choosing.

  24. That top totally works for a girls night out! And I totally agree that some bridesmaids outfits can never be worn again. If/when I get married, I hope to give mine something they would be able to re-wear... thank God for Pinterest ;)

  26. Brilliant-looks super cute! One of my bridesmaids dresses was eggplant with lace fringe along the top...reminded me a little of 80's Dolly Parton style. Didn't keep that one or donate it lol! The others went to an organization in my town that donates to teens that can't afford prom dresses {love this}. Looking forward to your guest fashion tips!

    But, consider this, suppose you typed a catchier post
    title? I am not saying your content is not solid, but what if
    you added something that grabbed people's attention? I mean "friday's fancies: wedding guest" is kinda plain. You should peek at Yahoo's home page and note how they write news titles to grab people interested. You might try adding a video or a pic or two to grab people interested about everything've got to say. In my opinion, it could bring your posts a little bit more interesting.
