Sunday Shopping: Slips

Ok, so maybe this isn't the hippest topic, but many of you had slip questions after I copped to wearing one under my sundress here.

My bestie Michelle is always making fun of me for being such a granny with my slip & I might have even taken it on her bachelorette party #Guilty #GetWild

What can I say, I have had the same white half slip for years & love it more than one should love a slip. My slip is most likely from JC Penney (from high school, my memories that far back are fuzzy), half-length, white & made of breathable cotton/poly mix.

Are you in the market for a slip?
Here are my slip tips:
1. What length: do you wear mostly mini, midi, or maxi length skirts/dresses?
(**My mini "half-length" slip keeps my tush covered 90% of the time, but I have a full-lenth option for formal dresses & preventing VPLs under clingy jersey maxi dresses)

2. What color: White, nude, & black are the most common colors you will run into. Nude blends into many skin tones, white will make your light dresses look more substantial, while black will keep your dark materials from looking sheer in sunlight.
My favorite picks: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4
3. Problem areas: My slip needs are to prevent pantie lines, beef up see-through fabric, & keep clingy fabrics from sticking to my legs in warm weather/static in cold weather, so I love my loose slip.

If you are looking for slips that nip & tuck, there are plenty of options out there, especially now that Target is selling Spanx products, but always remember, if it isn't comfortable or rides up, you probably won't wear it, so keep that in mind when shopping.

4. Try it on: put the slip on under your skirt/dress - can you see it?
Tuck in your shirt - is it awkward or bulky?
Lift up your arms - does it ride up, get out of place?
Turn around - are your problem areas taken care of? Any new lumps? VPL check!

Now that you know what you are looking for, where to shop?
Shop in store & online at Dillard's, JC Penney, Target, & my favorite online destination for  functional undergarments, Bare Necessities.

  3. I wear slips often. I like to keep my skirts from sticking to tights/hose. I prefer lace-edge designs, because I actually think they look cute if they peek out a little bit.

  4. Thanks for the slip tips! Letting our inner grannies out haha! I'm definitely going to have to go find a loose one, because the fitted one I have always wriggles up - and then I end up with far more embarrasing bumps and lumps :)

  5. I wear slips with anything that doesn't have a lining and even if it does and I can see the light go through. I hate when people wear maxis with no slip and you see everything shaking.

  6. This is so timely because I had a bridal shower yesterday and the dress turned out to be see-through! I didn't have a slip handy, so I had to use a white tank top and wear it as a tube skirt. Oy!

  9. have you seen the slip "dress extenders"? they have lace at the bottom to make short dresses appear longer! I just bought one last week to wear with some dresses that have shrunk! They are amazing!

  10. That sounds like a genius idea! I have a few dresses that could definitely use an extra inch or two! Another one of those things that makes me say, "I could have totally thought of that!"

  11. I need to get one of the shorter slips. I have one but it's kinda long so I have to roll it up so it won't show.
