friday's fancies: beachy chic

Um... I know you don't want to hear about the weather anymore... but these 100 ˚F+ temps are pretty much ruling my life right now....
So instead of talking about the weather, I am pretending I am at the beach (I mean... why not!?)
Today I am linking up with Friday's Fancies over at Long Distance Loving

Growing up, my family vacationed at Orange Beach, Alabama along the Gulf Coast every summer. Between the sugar white sand, icy blue waters, and dolphin sightings every morning it has always been a highlight of my summer. After a long day at the beach, my sun-kissed skin always craves light, cool fabrics (chiffon, linen, and soft cottons)

The perfect post-sunset beach outfit for me is: linen sweater + worn in shorts + easy sandals (perfect for pulling off and walking barefoot along the cool sands!)
These are actually my first pair of "designer" denim circa 2003 that I turned into shorts when the knees finally gave out, and now they are the softest pair of denim I own!
{What I wore: J.Crew sweater (similar here, here & here) // DIY Citizen for Humanity shorts // Target sandals (similar) // homemade turquoise necklace }
What is your dream evening at the beach outfit?

  6. You look so cute in those shorts. I could never wear shorts like that, my legs are not long enough to sustain them. You, on the other hand, look gorg.  :)

  9. I love this easy outfit, especially since the jean shorts are original vintage! :)  PS - I don't know what happened, but for like 2 weeks your blog never updated in my Google Reader, and then today all of a sudden there were 15 new posts - crazy weird!

  11. That outfit is perfect for the beach!  Chic, cool and comfy.  I hear you on the temps ... it's been 108+ here and the monsoon season just started, so it's humid too.  Ick.  I don't like my knees, so my perfect beach outfit is cool linen pants and a striped tee ... long or short-sleeved depending on the weather.  Hang in there and have a great weekend!

  13. Cute look! I'm dreaming of Mexico beaches... the beaches in Seattle are cold, just like the weather, and you have to bring extra clothes to stay warm!

  20. I love denim shorts for summer... still haven't decided if I am going to get a new suit this year or not... I have about a million, but I am keeping my eyes open for the perfect retro fitted one!

  22. Oh girl, I am totally not typically a bermuda shorts wearer either... these are old skinny jeans, and I think that because they are body hugging as opposed to baggy around the knees (not a super attractive part of my body that I want to accentuate) they work better than any other pair I have ever tried on it stores... might want to give it a shot if a pair of your skinny jeans ever gets ratty on the bottom! Have a great weekend

  25. Haha - totally vintage! I can't believe they will be 10 years old next year! And yes, my technologically challenged self was trying to DIY some tweaks around my site, and instead disconnected my RSS feed... I am back in business now... so sorry for the absence, and then sudden onslaught of posts! Whoops!

  27. 108˚+ AND monsoons!? Too much to handle! You and me both need a vacation somewhere with reasonable weather!

  28. I think Orange Beach has the best sand around ... I am pretty much a sand snob thanks to that place! haha

  29. Ooh Mexico... I want to dream of being there too! My bf took me to a beach in Oregon last year, and when he told me to wear pants and a rain jacket, I was confused as to where we were actually going! I guess that is why they call it the "shore" and not the "beach"!

  36. 10 years is the perfect amount of time to break in a pair of jeans! :)  Oh no need to apologize at all - I totally thought I messed something up in my feeds, haha - I'm a bit technologically challenged myself!

  37. I really love those shorts, they're the perfect length!  I get so tired of the common short-shorts we all seem to gravitate towards these days.  Your pair is refreshing!

I would say my dream evening at the beach outfit would involve some sort of flowy maxi dress...and bare feet for the sand! :)
