gift guide: summer staples

I love giving gifts. One of my favorite things is the gratification of giving someone a present that they didn't even know they wanted, but is something they will love and cherish for a long time. I actually think I am pretty good at this, and have a stockpile of gifts sometimes 3 years deep just because I see something that is SO so-and-so and just can't pass it by (and of course, being my neurotic self, I also have a spreadsheet organizing said gifts!)

This year, I am making a conscious effort to purchase any additional gifts for people from handmade (like Etsy, and Poppytalk) or local sources, and really want to share some of my fabulous finds with you. I hope to make this a monthly series... so this first month's theme is sizzling summer finds, in my favorite color: Orange!

For your girlfriends:
As long as you haven't been hiding under a rock for the past couple of months, you know how fabulous this necklace is (12)... pick it up from Ily Couture for a great price!
For your mom:
Your mom is a special lady, so why don't you treat her to a pair of vintage sea shell earrings (3) from Diament Designs, or a one-of-a-kind necklace (15) from Love Obsessed
For newlywed friends:
Am I the only one who has 10,000 weddings to go to the summer?! Pour some love on the bride and groom to be with some winning recipes in this chic book (13) from One Canoe Two Letterpress, or a happy print (14) from The Love Shop for their new place.
For your dad:
June is the month for celebrating dads, and I sure know my nature loving father would appreciate this mothy print (6) from Small Talk Studio, and put these spice bowls (7) from Paulova Ceramics to good use while dominating the grill.
For your separated-by-summer college buds:
You might be missing your girls while you are on summer vaca, but that is no excuse not to continue being fabulous with some snail mail correspondence using these darling Sparrow Nest Script cards (11), or a fun friendship bracelet exchange via Lo & Chlo (16)
For your place:
Moving to a new place? Or sprucing up your current space? Hanging up fun prints with this adorable washi tape (9) from Pretty Tape will immediately add some personality to your walls. This little piggy planter (10) from Fruit Fly Pie can't get much cuter, scoop him and his other planter friends up!
For your significant other:
Pretty framed prints (1) are a fabulous gift to commemorate special dates/events with your loved one. "We're Better Together"... from Oh My Deer (from here in Nashville!) is a perfect example.
For your self (le duh!):
When shopping for others, I without fail find perfect things for myself too... it is like good shopping karma! This pop of neck color (4) from The Vault Jewels is so perfectly zesty for summer soirees, and I can't wait to carry my necessary items in style with this chic cross body bag (8) from Velle Purse (perfect for outdoor music festivals!)
For the party:
Summer is for partying, and this happy little garland (2) from The Flair Exchange would look stunning strung from an outside fence, or even your seasonally-inactive fireplace
For your sister:
Looking for the perfect timekeeper for your stylish seester? How about this fun octopus perpetual calendar (5) from Blackbird Letterpress... together forever!

  7. I agree! I LOVE giving gifts... I'm not satisfied unless I go above and beyond. And giving people things they didn't even know they wanted is always my goal too :).. that's why I get annoyed with registries... takes all the thought and fun out of it!!
