Last week I revisited how closet staples give longevity to my trendy seasonal pieces
Closet staples:
pencil skirt (and how to wear it 3 ways)
lady-like jewelry
silk blouse
and I would like to add another, the chambray button down (le duh!)
and I would like to add another, the chambray button down (le duh!)
{ What I wore: J. Crew chambray shirt & skirt // Nine West shoes } |
In November 2011, I had 22 of the 50 wardrobe staples, now I have 28... not bad... that means I have been averaging adding about 1 staple item per month. And because wardrobe staples are often more expensive, investment purchases, I think this pace is about right for my graduate school budget.
{ I added a trench, white button down (crazy, but not actually on the list), diamond studs, leather purse, dressy tank, silk blouse, and pencil skirt }
I will have to make a Here&Now 50 classics list - including a chambray shirt, white button down, nude heels, statement necklace, and fancy shorts (**update: check out the 50 Here&Now Classics here) |
In the next 6 months, I am hoping to invest in a tweed jacket, nude heels (also not on the list... but a staple in my book), cigarette pants, black bikini (mine just died!), leather sandals, and tortoise sunnies

How many of the "50 wardrobe classics" do you have?
Which staples are on your wish list?
What item is the biggest work horse in your closet?
P.S. I wasn't the only one talking about/wearing wardrobe staples last week.
Check out these other inspirational posts:

- Little Bits of Lovely shared a gorgeous photos of the always fabulous Olivia Palermo rocking a silky blouse and leather shorts (great minds....)

my black minnies from j.crew are my favorite staple that i own. i wear them dressed up or down all the time. and they are super slimming and flattering on every body type. I totally recommend you check them out for your black cigarette pant staple!

I love chambray shirts, which is funny because I really did not get into them at all until this year. Great classics series too - I love seeing what investments other people buy! I have the same Matchbook list of 50 classics pinned on one of my pinterest boards! :)

A chambray is a MUST and this outfit is one of my faves you have worn! FYI, Target has some great nude heels for $30. I wear mine all of the time and they have held up really well!

I am D.Y.I.N.G. over that SKIRT!!! I'm in loooooove! I recently got my first chambray shirt & I love it too! I definitely have to keep myself from wearing it every day. Love the shoes too, are they new or older Nine Wests?

Thank you lady! I wear my chambray shirts about 3 times a week each, and I have two... so do that math! haha
ReplyDeleteThey are last year Nine West... if I find any super similar I will be sure to give you the heads up!

Thank you Shanna! Also, I just found a pair of black wedges (like your Old Navy ones) from Tar-jay that are just fab, so I will def be going back to check out their nude heel selection!

Chambray is so versatile... I have girlfriends who have still not jumped on the bandwagon, and it shocks me!

Thank you for your sweet comments as always Mary! I have to practice such self control when I see all of your fabulous shoes, but know that I should be saving up for my closet staples instead... there is always hope that I will win the lottery! ha

Such a great list ... now if I could just tick some more of them off!

J.Crew has such great options (my 2 are from there), but really chambray is such a versatile fabric, it is showing up all over the place these days! Happy hunting!
ReplyDeletexx
Ooh Thanks for the heads up Hannah... those are the pair that I included in my wish list collage, but I wasn't sure how they would fit
ReplyDeletexx
this was really a great post! i love classic peices, you can never go wrong and you will always look chic! i also really like your denim shirt! very lovely!
ReplyDeleteThree cheers for the Chambray shirt! I don't know what I would do without mine, it's goes with everything and it's so comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI really like this Classics List --makes perfect sense! My pearl studs have by far been my best investment piece --I think I may have even overused them . . . I rarely wear any other type of earrings :)

LOVE that skirt! Tried to get it when it went on sale and they were out of my size... Super jealous! You look great!
ReplyDeleteWay to go on the staples list! I am impressed... I should probably take a look and get on that!
Hope you have a great week!

It's an Easy Life
These are great! A chambray shirt is definitely a classic in my book. And pray do tell, how on earth does one's black bikini just die? haha
ReplyDeletexx http://camomeetscouture.blogspot.com
Love this post. First of all, your outfit is really cute. That jean shirt pairs perfectly with your floral skirt. Secondly, I love the 50 classics for your closet list. Some of the things I need for my closet are a pair of loafers, black cigarette pants, and khaki pants to name a few. Love how you also created your own list. I need a couple of things off of your list also. ;) Thanks for sharing.

I agree that the chambray/denim shirt should be a closet staple, it is so versatile and I have had some version of it in my wardrobe for 25 years. You've given me inspiration for wearing my chambray, yet again, with a floral Brooks Brother's skirt I thrifted! I will give credit were it is due when I post it to my blog. Thanks for another great outfit post, you look terrific.
ReplyDeleteOh awesome Christine! I can't wait to see how you wear it!
ReplyDeletexx
haha - my black bikini went to bikini heaven, because it died from me loving it too much. Seriously, I went to tie it on one day last summer, and the elastic just popped because it was so old (5+ years) and had dried out... sadness!
ReplyDeletexx
You can NEVER go wrong with some classic pearl earrings... I have gorgeous ones from my sister, but always forget to put them in!
ReplyDeletexx
yay! Another chambray believer :)
ReplyDeletexx
Thank you dear!
ReplyDeletexx
Oh bummer! I do that all the time in J.Crew... which is how I justify my impulse buying ways!
