Don't get me wrong, I love me some statement/costume jewelry... but as I work towards refining my wardrobe with classics, I am inspired to find "grown-up" jewelry that is fitting for a lady (as well as a casual graduate student). I am not one to pile on jewelry, so if I am wearing any items, it is because I absolutely love the piece!
The Matchbook Magazine 50 classics guide claims that a timeless wardrobe would include:
Diamond Studs
Pearl Studs
Pearl Necklace
Signet Ring
- I have pearl studs given to me by my sister when I was her Maid of Honor
- I wear the heck out of my freshwater pearl necklace that I feel is a fresh take on the classic, although one day I would love to have an opera length saltwater pearl necklace
- I think signet rings are darling, and have my eye out for one, but I really love the rings I have received as hand-me-downs from family (my diamond & emerald one is particularly special!)
- Last year, after passing a major milestone in my graduate school career, I purchased myself a classic Michael Kors gold watch... and plan on having it for forever!
Recently, I received these gorgeous six prong diamond stud earrings in a classic 1 caret setting from Anjolee Jewelry... and totally rounded out my lady-like jewelry box. Anjolee Designs are great for a particular jewelry wearer like my self, because you can customize both tennis bracelets and diamond earrings based on stone size, setting, and metals... so much fun!
{What I wore: J.Crew white denim pants (looking for a skinny pair this summer) & sweater // H&M leopard tank (similar) // (old) Ann Taylor wedges (love this pair) // diamond stud earrings courtesy of Anjolee Jewelry // Michael Kors watch // Diament Designs bracelet // family heirloom ring }
Planning on purchasing any "grown-up" pieces from the Classics List?
I can't wait to pair my grown-up jewelry pieces with my in-the-works friendship bracelets and fun, colorful summer bangles...
xx

Such a pretty cardigan, so feminine! And that watch, yes please! :)
ReplyDeleteI just ordered some crazy bright friendship type bracelets from F21, and that was exactly my plan too. Mixing them with "grown up" pieces haha. Love your neutral outfit! They are my personal fav :)

This is such a great list of what every girl "needs." I sadly don't have any of these items. I think it's time for me to grow up! Thanks for sharing.

My husband got me pearl stud earrings and a pearl necklace last year because he knew how badly I wanted them! I really need a nice watch though!
ReplyDeletei love that watch & your leopard print top. this is a very elegant but modern lady like outfit. i love the neutrals together. i definitely don't own most of those things - i have pearl earrings , but not a necklace, and the only diamonds i own are on my engagement / wedding rings.
ReplyDeleteOn an everyday base I wear my wedding ring and diamond studs.
ReplyDeleteMy husband bought me pearl earrings and a pearl ring a few years back, but then on our wedding day he got me a gorgeous david yurman ring that I just cannot stop wearing. I pretty much wear it every day.
ReplyDeleteYou are looking so pretty in this outfit, I love the ruffle cardi. :)

i have those classic pieces i wear all the time, too. i love (personally) pearls - pearl studs, pearl necklaces, pearl bracelets. i always feel so pretty and classy in pearls
ReplyDeleteI'm on the hunt for the perfect gold watch. The only jewelry I wear absolutely every day is my wedding ring. I was never much of a jewelry girl so if anything makes it on me I call it a 'win!'
ReplyDeleteI love the jewelry combination. Gold and pearls are perfect together!

I agree that it's nice to have classic jewelry in your wardrobe along with trendy pieces :) I've got everything on that list except a signet ring, but I can't really see myself wearing one.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your sparkly new earrings!

ReplyDeleteYou look classically gorgeous! I'm pretty lucky to say I have and love these classics (and my wedding and engagement rings) and I can say that I've received them from special family members and significant people in my life over the last 25 years. I wear them often. {But, I have this thing for watches and I always am looking, I love that Michael Kors!} You're incredibly fortunate to have these pieces, too and mark them as significant milestones. I am totally blown away by the Anjolee diamond stud earrings, wow, just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSuch a classy, fun outfit!

I have a diamond necklace that was my 18th birthday present - the diamond was my great grandmother's engagement ring diamond and has been passed down to the first female for their 18th birthday. I also have 2 diamond rings, one from my boyfriend from when we first started dating, and the other from my mom for my 21st birthday, that I wear every day. These 3 pieces mean more to me than any piece of costume jewelry ever will, so I don't even feel bad wearing them almost every day. I think having a classic, but versatile jewelry collection is the way to go. F21 bangles will come and go...diamonds are forever (wow thats cheesy).
ReplyDeleteI love the classic list, I am definitely missing a lot from that list. The thing I want the most is a watch. I've got my eye on a classic gold Kate Spade watch. As for jewelry I wear everyday that would be my wedding band and engagement ring.
ReplyDeleteThank you dear!

Thanks! Yea, I'm not sure a "signet ring" is really something our generation wears... I would rather have a monogram necklace :) (hint hint bf!)

Thank you!

Thank you lady! One day I hope to add a set of wedding rings to my collection too :)

What a special piece of jewelry... I love special trinkets like that!
ReplyDeleteDiamonds ARE forever... but I'll take emeralds, and topaz, and sapphires too :)

Ooh Kate Spade has come out with some super cute watches lately. Watches are my reward to myself... and they make for good markers of life milestones!

I'm loving this look - very sophisticated and classy. I just bought a skinny pair of white pants from JCrew -- totally using this outfit as inspiration! :)

LOVE the classics. I've been coveting a gold watch myself, lately. I'm trying to decide if I want to splurge or just get something cheap to try it out first, because I've never been a watch person. It would be more like a functional bracelet :)
