look at this stuff, isn't it neat?

Junior Year of high school, I never knew that 7 years later this dress would make the perfect mermaid fin!
(sorry these photos are blurry, they were pulled from my archive and scanned it!)

A little snip-snip, glue-glue, and few beers later I chopped my former prom dress in half and made it into my DIY Little Mermaid costume. Combined with a red wig from last year, a nude tank top and seashells, Ariel was born.

Ty and I celebrated our Halloween last weekend by attending an electronic music show on the Cumberland River in Downtown Nashville, and had a blast partying with our friends.

Happy Halloween everyone!
Are you still into dressing up? Does your costume have any element of DIY?
May you eat one less Reese's cup than your limit tonight!

(ends Friday 11/2)

P.P.S. I am a big fan of donating old prom dresses so that all girls can have the opportunity to attend their prom and feel like a rockstar, but sadly this dress was about to fall apart on its own (beads falling off with every step, inside construction coming loose...), so its best option was to be reincarnated as The Little Mermaid

P.P.S.S. Today I am linking up with Dancing with Ashley for her Favorite Things series!

  5. LOL cute! Gotta love when prom dresses come in handy later. Not sure I've ever used mine again! I was the little mermaid a couple years ago and thinking about it now I probably should have used my old prom dress... the skirt was shaped similar and was teal!

Happy Halloween! What a great costume!

  6. This just made me love you even more, if that was possible. Did you know The Little Mermaid is my absolute favorite Disney movie!? I've always wanted to be a mermaid, I mean not just for Halloween, but in real life, haha. Don't judge me. LOVE your costumes! Happy Halloween beautiful!

  8. Oh my gosh, you look adorable! That dress made the most perfect mermaid tail! I absolutely love it. I'm definitely fond of DIY costumes because they're so much more unique (I made mine too, which I also put on my blog). Love this!

  10. Um, I'm dying of jealousy. This is my DREAM costume. I have wanted to grow up and be a mermaid since I can remember... In fact, there's even a quote in an elementary school yearbook, and I say I want to be a mermaid when I grow up. Everyone else says doctor, astronaut, fireman, princess. I aimed high.

Next year you better believe I will be wearing a mermaid outfit.

  13. How awesome that you reused your prom dress!! I've always thought of going as a prom queen or something to reuse mine, but I should probably just donate it and avoid the embarrassment!
