wardrobe staples: chambray shirt

Ladies, this is week 2 of my conversation about wardrobe basics - deciding what are your closet staples, where to buy them, how to rock them, and more.
{ see week 1 on the trench here, and my 50 wardrobe staples here }

By now, you know that my LOVE for chambray shirts runs deep { proof here, here, here }
When in doubt, I pick my chambray shirt. It always goes in my suitcase in case I am in a bind for an extra outfit while traveling, and I think it is a truly versatile piece that every woman should own.

Here are some of the many ways I have worn my beloved chambray shirt:
chambray shirt + pencil skirt + leopard heels + statement necklace = girls' night out
chambray shirt + colored denim + booties = weekend shopping
open chambray shirt + maxi dress + panama hat = easy, breeze vacation get up

I wasn't sure you were convinced, so I asked some of my favorite blogging ladies Jules, Jessica, BlairSydney... and they agreed! Turns out, the rumor is true: chambray shirts can be worn buttoned, layered, open, dressed up, tucked, tied, and paired with just about any of your other closet favorites!

How do you rock chambray?
Still looking for the perfect chambray top for your closet?
Check out my favorite options below (from $25-90)

  1. I LOVE the chambray look on everyone but whenever I try a top on I just can't commit...what is your favorite brand??

  2. Love this, I definitely wear my chambray shirt more than any other top on my closet!

  4. Love the versatility of this wardrobe staple!  My new fave way to wear is under a black leather shell or tee :)  Happy weekend!

  5. I have two chambray button-down shirts from J.Crew. At $50+ (on sale) they were not cheap for me to buy, but button-down shirts are a style I gravitate towards, and J.Crew clothes are of high quality and I like the fit of the brand. If you are just wanting to dip your toe into this look, I would try to pick up a style from Old Navy, Forever21 or even Target... You should be able to find some decent options at any of those stores for around $20. It also might be that you just don't like button-down shirts... Try looking for a chambray tunic or non-button style top. Hope that helps! Happy shopping xx

  6. You can never wear it too much, so of course you do!!

  7. Oh lady- that sounds fabulous... I hope you don't mind, but I am definitely going to have to try that!! xx

  8. I love the idea of the chambray shirt tucked into a girly  skirt with booties. It really is a staple piece, love it!

  9. I love my chambray shirt too! I keep discovering new ways to wear it...under a sweater, under a tank so it looks like a vest, with a printed scarf etc. I  could probably wear it everyday!

  10. I can mine ate American Eagle and LOVE the thing. It's the best purchase I did when I was in the United States :) x

  11. I totally agree that a chambray shirt is a must have.  I love how you can dress it down or dress it up.

  12. I have to say, I don't love regular chambray, but I do have a thrifted oversized lavender denim button down and a light red chambray shirt from Old Navy. For some reason, I feel better pairing them with jeans than the blue version...

  13. I have three different chambray tops! My favorite, and a source women often overlook, is from the mens' side of Old Navy- they have great colors and the cut is awesome- especially for busty gals!

  14. I still do't own a chambray shirt - I love other girls wearing them but I can't find a perfect short for me...

Thank you for your comments, they make my day!!
