wardrobe staples: chambray shirt

Ladies, this is week 2 of my conversation about wardrobe basics - deciding what are your closet staples, where to buy them, how to rock them, and more.
{ see week 1 on the trench here, and my 50 wardrobe staples here }

By now, you know that my LOVE for chambray shirts runs deep { proof here, here, here }
When in doubt, I pick my chambray shirt. It always goes in my suitcase in case I am in a bind for an extra outfit while traveling, and I think it is a truly versatile piece that every woman should own.

Here are some of the many ways I have worn my beloved chambray shirt:
chambray shirt + pencil skirt + leopard heels + statement necklace = girls' night out
chambray shirt + colored denim + booties = weekend shopping
open chambray shirt + maxi dress + panama hat = easy, breeze vacation get up

I wasn't sure you were convinced, so I asked some of my favorite blogging ladies Jules, Jessica, BlairSydney... and they agreed! Turns out, the rumor is true: chambray shirts can be worn buttoned, layered, open, dressed up, tucked, tied, and paired with just about any of your other closet favorites!

How do you rock chambray?

  5. I have two chambray button-down shirts from J.Crew. At $50+ (on sale) they were not cheap for me to buy, but button-down shirts are a style I gravitate towards, and J.Crew clothes are of high quality and I like the fit of the brand. If you are just wanting to dip your toe into this look, I would try to pick up a style from Old Navy, Forever21 or even Target... You should be able to find some decent options at any of those stores for around $20. It also might be that you just don't like button-down shirts... Try looking for a chambray tunic or non-button style top. Hope that helps! Happy shopping xx

  9. I love my chambray shirt too! I keep discovering new ways to wear it...under a sweater, under a tank so it looks like a vest, with a printed scarf etc. I  could probably wear it everyday!

  12. I have to say, I don't love regular chambray, but I do have a thrifted oversized lavender denim button down and a light red chambray shirt from Old Navy. For some reason, I feel better pairing them with jeans than the blue version...

  13. I have three different chambray tops! My favorite, and a source women often overlook, is from the mens' side of Old Navy- they have great colors and the cut is awesome- especially for busty gals!
