blogger guide: Media Kits

Media Kit, Smedia Kit... that is what I used to think. That is until a brand I was excited to partner with asked for mine. Oh crap!
I immediately ran to my smart blogger friends & found this guide & this tutorial... and whipped one up, but is it right
Is it what brands want?
Why don't we ever talk about this so I can know that I making something actually presentable?
Ok, so I am a little concerned that I am about to embarrass myself in front of all the internet, but this is my "media kit":
(in reality those blue links are clickable in my .pps file d, but I could only figure out how to share them as a static image here)
Ok, phew... now that that is out there...
What is on your media kit?
What format do you have it saved as so you can share your clickable links?
What major media kit snafus have I made above?
Can we get this whole media kit thing out in the open so that we can all know what is actually going on? k thanks!

  1. I've never made a media kit (I think I'm a little too new to have much to brag about), but I really appreciate that you posted yours! I feel like nobody wants to give away their secrets, so that's very cool of you. I'm sure it will help a few people...maybe me eventually!

  2. My media kit is basically just text and links on my "advertise" page. I include my writing portfolio, brands I've worked with ,etc. When I have time, I need to make a PDF like this- great idea!

  3. I've heard about media kits, but don't have one yet since I don't have sponsors yet. But, I really appreciate that you put this out there and are asking these questions... hopefully this is where I will be sometime soon!

The one tutorial that I've seen is here: http://vmacandcheese.com/2012/07/19/blog-tip-of-the-day-4/

  4. I've been toying with the idea of a media kit myself and I have to say its super difficult! I think you are on the right start/page! I think you should mention something about sizes of advertising banners? what kind of adverts youre interested in?

  5. Thank you so much for sharing! I don't have a media kit as I'm quite a newbie! But I think its great that you've opened this discussion!

  6. Oh god, I don't even have a media kit! There's like a mental block in my head that prevents me from even understanding them/how to make one. I'm definitely going to look at the two links you posted. I've been toying with the idea for ages, but I don't really have sponsors yet, so I'm not 100% sure it's necessary. Probably a good idea to have one just in case though...

I'd love to see more examples of media kits/tutorials out there. I feel like if you weren't trained in business, etc, you're just super confused!

  14. I had a media kit on my to do list for at least 6 months. Finally had to also whip one up when a big PR firm asked for mine. From there, I cant believe I ever DIDNT have one. I have my google analytics on there (uniques, pageviews etc) and my # of followers on various social media platforms. I also list a few of the major brands I've worked with with links to the posts (you have to brag duh). I also list a few ways to work with my blog as well. Just to get a rough idea. Then that got me to create my ad rates sheet with more details/pricing and terms.

PS you may have just inspired me to do another READER Q&A on how to make a great media kit!

  16. I am still in the smedia kit stage. My blog has had the same tiny amount of readers for a while so I am just not that motivated. BUT, I love yours and am bookmarking it for when I need to get in gear! xo

  18. Thank you for writing about this Jess! I am clueless when it comes to media kits. I just got asked for one for the first time a few months ago, so I whipped up a PDF. I don't have clickable links in mine though, just the written links. I'm already failing! Haha! I'm very curious to see what other commenters have to say on this topic :)

  19. Oh, wow! I'm such a newbie, I've never even heard of a media kit!! As far as what I can see, yours looks good!

  20. I just finished up a media kit last October, although I have yet to use it. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY haha. It is just a good idea to have one on hand because if brands contact you and want to work with you, you have something to immediately send over... especially if you are a full-time student or have a full-time job... otherwise it would be far too time consuming to respond. I didn't even consider clickable links though, that's a great idea! Mine is basically a background description with unique visitors, page views and social media numbers! Basically, I have no great advice on what should be included, but I love yours!

  21. Thank you so much for posting this! I keep hearing about media kits, but never knew what exactly one was and whether or not I needed one. This is a fantastic resource and hopefully I'll have my own kit soon. Thanks again!

  23. thanks so much for sharing this! i'm always looking for ways to improve my media kit. i paid someone to make mine because i know zero about graphics and all that jazz... what software did u use to create yours?

  24. I just used PowerPoint. I am getting better with PhotoShop, so I might recreate it using that software one day in the near future. I just wanted it to be a document that I could send in a locked form, but have clickable links. What format is yours??

  25. Oh good. I am not the only person who uses powerpoint! I used that program to make all my page designs.

  26. Your kit looks amazing! I thought about making one but then I figured that I don't have enough readers for anyone to contact me. Nicely done though.

Hells bells, I don't have one. They can just look at my advertise tab and about me section. I haven't had anyone ask me for one, but I do think this is something I should probably put together just in case! I think yours turned out super professional, yet fresh and fun.

  30. THANK YOU for posting this! I made mine up in Photoshop but like the idea of powerpoint to add the hyperlinks! I have tweeted and FB'd about anyone willing to discuss the do's and don'ts but offering examples so I know where I'm starting off from! This is amazing! If you ever want to talk shop - let me know!!
