Thank you ladies so much for your advice yesterday about what to wear to my first blogger function - I knew you fashionistas would have all the answers!
After another round of feedback on Instagram last night (I am such a mess), I found a winning outfit, and it completely took away the stress about being super awkward, now I'm just looking forward to meeting other Nashvegas bloggers!
After the break I have some serious issues to discuss: Pinterest
So, as you all know Pinterest is amazing (le duh) - seriously, how did people plan a wedding before it existed!?
But there are some Pinterest problems that we need to talk about.
(this is all inspired by {av} of Long Distance Loving, see her posts on the matter {here} & {here})
1. Pin with love
Before you pin, check on the source. If you can (and you should have no excuse not to), find the original source! You can install a link to this site {http://jarred.github.com/src-img/} on your internet toolbar to quickly locate the source of most any image... I use it all the time, and it seriously couldn't be any easier! You wouldn't want anyone sharing your pretty images without credit, so make sure this link love starts with you!
2. Clean up your pins
Sometimes it isn't about quantity it is about quality - and this is one of those times!
This past weekend I went through cleaning up my gift & wish list boards (in preparation for some fun new things!), and I was appalled at the number of pins linked to spam boards, ambiguous addresses & outdated sites... those are things that I put out there on the internet, tied to myself, and my site, after all!
I want to support quality and honest pins to things that I truly love.
I never met an organizing project I didn't like, so the couple of hours I spent this weekend checking on the sources of my pins, shuffling the boards around, & dusting out the cobwebs of pins that I no longer have an interest in, actually made me happy. It certainly thrills me to death to see my new squeaky clean boards!
Pinterest is such a fabulous site, so let's put forth the effort to maintain updated resources, and properly linked images, so that we can keep it around for years to come!
If you want to spread the word, you can use the hashtag that {av} has established: #cleanupyourpinterest
First off, I love the purple skirt! And secondly, you're totally right about Pinterest. I get so frustrating when I see something I love and click on it, only to have it link back to a bogus site or something completely unrelated. I'm definitely going to do a little "dusting off" of mine this weekend, too!

Cute look - I love that skirt!! I'm glad you found an outfit that you like for the blogger meetup - have fun!! Thanks for the reminders about Pinterest. It is so important to actually find the proper source of the images.
ReplyDeleteI can't see your blouse in the pics. The rest looks great.
ReplyDeleteI read that post at Long Distance Loving, and it definitely inspired me to clean up my Pinterest too. I didn't get all the way through, but I at least got a good start! I love this look too--the leopard and boots "toughen up" that pencil skirt in the best way!
ReplyDeleteI love the leopard top!

So cute I Love the scarf with purple! Funny story I have a post planned for next week about Pinterest. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the color of your skirt! It adds such a nice pop of color, and your scarf is fabulous! =)

Cute look! Loving your coat and skirt! One of my biggest pet peeves is when things aren't linked to their real source! Especially when it's something I want to buy! lol Definitely need to check my pins and use that link you put up!

LOVE your purple skirt so much! Especially paired with a leopard scarf and bomber jacket! You look so fresh and cute! Also I 100% agree on the Pinterest matter. I literally get SO irritated every time I see a blogger's photo I know out there with no source to it. This even happens with bigger name sites... who literally steal images from bloggers sites and put their own logo on the bottom of the image and pin it from their site? What's up with that?! I really hate seeing that! I always try to pin directly from the source so I know I am giving proper credit!
ReplyDeleteI love the tone of the purple. It's an unexpected pop of color in the fall. And your scarf is so awesome!

I'm not a big Pinterest user. I do have everything organize that I do have pin.
ReplyDeleteJust my favorite v-neck tee from Everlane! Link to their site under the first photo :) xx
ReplyDeleteI love purple with leopard- never would have thought to put them together myself!

YESSSSSSSSSSSS!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had the time to clean up my Pinterest! I totally agree with you though, I try to check the source of a pin before I actually go forward with pinning it. I hate when I pin something and go back to realize its not a recipe or a link to that awesome outfit.

I know right! Nothing like falling for a pin and then having to search it down for FOREVER! Again, what DID we do before Pinterest!?

I am SO with you on this. I spent a good portion of the day Saturday just organizing my boards. I cut my boards down from 58 to 40. That was a big start for me. I've categorized everything and made things easier to find, but now I need to do the hard part - the proper sourcing and deleting of things that aren't. I know it's a huge project, but I want to treat others the way I want to be treated, and that is with proper credit. I'm glad more bloggers are raising this issue!
ReplyDeleteYay! I want to help keep the internets the friendly and supportive space that I have found it to be, and I am so happy that others are wiling to join in the cause! If you are anything like me, once you start sourcing your photos, you won't be able to stop... I got my source on while watching a movie last week, and it was addicting!
